The New York Times Updates Facebook Page09:15 EST Wednesday, February 29, 2012 NEW YORK (Business Wire) -- The New York Times today launched an update to its main Facebook® Page (facebook.com/nytimes) that allows Times readers to better connect with The New York Times brand through features that include a timeline that tracks celebrated milestones from The Times's 160-year history and an inside look into The Times newsroom throughout the years. Through the new Page timeline feature, The Times's Facebook Page will highlight select moments from the history of The Times including the introduction of the newspaper's slogan “All the News That's Fit to Print” in 1897, the introduction of crossword puzzles in 1942, the first “Stop the Presses” moment in 1968 and the launch of NYTimes.com in 1996. It also recounts The Times's coverage of select major news events, including the sinking of the Titanic and the Pentagon Papers. In the coming year, The Times will update its timeline with highlights of its historic coverage. The Times's Facebook Page cover photo at launch is a snapshot from a celebratory gathering of reporters, editors and other staff in The Times newsroom in 2008, when three Times journalists — Walt Bogdanich, Jake Hooker and Amy Harmon — received Pulitzer Prizes for their exceptional reporting. “Our 160-year history of chronicling world events makes The Times an ideal fit for Page timeline and some of the other new Facebook features,” said Yasmin Namini, senior vice president, marketing and circulation, and general manager, reader applications, The New York Times Media Group. “This new format will allow a deeper connection to our readers, so they can further feel like they are part of The New York Times community. Today, we frequently host chats with Times journalists on Facebook, giving people the unique opportunity to come ‘inside' the newsroom and go behind the story. With Page timeline, we invite you get a bit closer to the people through the years who have helped make The Times what it is today.” More than 2 million People Like The New York Times Facebook Page, which regularly provides updates on Top News stories, photos, videos and other notable features from The Times.
