Macy's Star Spangled Sing-Off Invites Vocalists to Enter Their Renditions of “The Star Spangled Banner” for a Chance to Accompany Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks® Live from New York's Hudson River12:00 EDT Wednesday, April 04, 2012 NEW YORK (Business Wire) -- This spring, Macy's (NYSE:M) invites America's most talented vocalists to sing their hearts out and show their patriotism, for the chance to win Macy's Star Spangled Sing-Off. Beginning Tuesday, April 10, Macy's kicks-off the search for a vocalist or group to sing the national anthem for the score of the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks® - Ignite the Night, the nation's largest Independence Day pyrotechnic display. Singers can submit their renditions of “The Star Spangled Banner” via Macy's Facebook page (facebook.com/macys), for the chance to take center stage during America's most explosive party. (Photo: Business Wire) “As the nation's premiere Independence Day pyrotechnic display, Macy's Fireworks ignite the sky with a jaw-dropping celebration each year,” said Amy Kule, executive producer of Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks. “'The Star-Spangled Banner' is always a highlight of the display and drives home the meaning of the holiday for millions. The opportunity to be the featured vocalist during the explosive high-flying show will truly be a life-changing experience for the lucky singer who will help us honor the nation.” The winner of Macy's Star Spangled Sing-Off will record a new version of the national anthem for the score of the Macy's Fireworks with the help of vocal mentor, Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler, and Macy's creative team. The newly recorded version of the anthem will be added to the final fireworks score to which the show is designed and synchronized. The winner and three guests will also receive a trip to New York City to see the nation's largest Independence Day celebration live. Fans across the nation will have the opportunity to download a free copy of the recording from Macy's Facebook page. To participate, vocalists must log-on to Macy's Facebook page (facebook.com/macys), “Like” Macy's and the Star Spangled Sing-Off app, and then upload their videos. Entries will be accepted from Tuesday, April 10 through Sunday, April 22. Singers should submit a video of themselves or a group of up to four vocalists performing “The Star Spangled Banner” a cappella or with self-accompaniment (no pre-recorded tracks are allowed). On Tuesday, April 24, Macy's will display all of the eligible entries on the Sing-Off tab and invite fans to vote for their favorite versions through Monday, April 30. With more than 3 million live spectators and millions tuned in nationwide, New York City's Hudson River will host America's most explosive party. The 36th annual Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks will fire more than 40,000 pyrotechnic shells during an approximate 25-minute synchronized display. Designed in collaboration with SOUSA Fireworks, the show will be set off from barges positioned on the Hudson River from 18th to 48th Streets. With an average of 1,600 shells launched per minute, Macy's Fireworks show is truly a dazzling spectacle. Independence day revelers from coast-to-coast will have a front row view of the pyro in the sky by tuning to NBC's national broadcast of “Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular” beginning at 9 p.m. (check local listings).
