Sandvine's proven partnerships yield six video optimization deployments
this year
WATERLOO, ON, May 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - Sandvine, (TSX:SVC; AIM:SAND) a leading provider of intelligent broadband
network solutions for fixed and mobile operators, today announced it
has successfully deployed video optimization at nTelos Wireless with partner Mobixell. Sandvine's patented divert technology has been successfully integrated
with leading video optimization vendors and has been selected for six
deployments worldwide in the last year alone. nTelos Wireless is one of
the video optimization customers to date.
Sandvine's traffic classification provides granular insight into
applications running on operator networks. Accurately identifying
traffic is a critical first step in optimizing video. Unlike certain
competitive solutions, Sandvine's granular identification and patented
divert technology create efficiencies in the optimization process and
reduce traffic latency by diverting only relevant video traffic into
third-party optimizers.
"The Sandvine intelligence layer gives us critical insight into our
network so we can maintain the quality of experience our customer's
value," said Dan Meenan, vice president-engineering, nTelos Wireless.
"nTelos has a reputation of providing high-quality broadband and this
solution will help enhance the integrity of our services."
Sandvine's products extend beyond optimization and take into
consideration video quality metrics. Sandvine is the only Network
Policy Control vendor that can provide quality metrics on streaming
video such as duration, display characteristics and transport quality.
"With YouTube comprising up to 25% of mobile network usage, maintaining
video quality is top priority for operators today," said Tom Donnelly.
"Video is multi-faceted and several characteristics need to be managed
to maintain the quality of experience for the viewer as well as other
subscribers sharing the network."
