CSC Wins Transportation and Infrastructure Systems Contract09:15 EDT Thursday, May 24, 2012 FALLS CHURCH, Va. (Business Wire) -- CSC (NYSE: CSC) announced today that it is one of six prime contractors awarded a Traffic Management Infrastructure Systems program contract by the U.S. Department of Transportation's John A. Volpe National Transportation Systems Center. This indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, which was awarded during CSC's fiscal 2012 third quarter, has a five-year performance period and a Not-to-Exceed value of $450 million for all six prime contracts. Under the terms of the contract, CSC will compete for task orders to develop research and test the Federal Aviation Administration's NextGen applications and concepts for programs such as the Continuous Lower Energy, Emissions and Noise and the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative. These programs are aimed at reducing fuel consumption, emissions and noise for the aviation industry in an effort to reduce impact on the environment and explore alternative fuel sources. “For more than a decade, CSC has worked with the Volpe Center to research and develop safe and eco-friendly technologies that address the nation's air traffic challenges,” said Mike Gaffney, president of CSC's North American Public Sector Civil Group. “The systems we developed have contributed to fewer flight delays, lower fuel consumption and a reduced workload for air traffic controllers.” The Volpe Center is the United States' leading Transportation Research and Development Center, and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's (U.S. DOT), Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA).
