Public Safety Users Have Video at Their Fingertips to Help Increase Effectiveness with Improved Ease of Use09:30 EDT Tuesday, May 29, 2012 SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (Business Wire) -- Public safety officers can now better operate their in-car camera systems using a dedicated touch-screen LCD control head that works in conjunction with the MVX1000 digital in-car video system by MotorolaSolutions, Inc. (NYSE: MSI). Many departments desire in-car video capabilities that operate independently of a laptop or mobile workstation. Video is becoming increasingly relied upon by law enforcement. A recent study conducted by the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) showed that 46 percent of law enforcement agencies surveyed use wireless video streaming in some capacity. An earlier International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) study showed that 93 percent of officer misconduct charges were overturned by video evidence. The MVX1000 is an efficient in-car video capture and management solution that combines high-quality video, reliable ruggedized construction, an intuitive touch-screen interface and a versatile back-end digital media management system to help protect officers and citizens. The control head, which is typically mounted near the rear view mirror, takes up little space and is easily operated with a few clicks. KEY FACTS The LCD control head provides a dedicated, intuitive user interface (UI) that works specifically with the MVX1000 digital in-car video system. It has a five-inch color display that is large enough to be clear and easy to use but small enough to remain unobtrusive. Designed for mission-critical use, the LCD control head is ruggedized and built to withstand vibration, dust, moisture and temperature extremes. It also features IP54 sealing, which keeps out dust and protects the unit against splashing liquids, ensuring reliable operation in the field. The most frequently needed hardware buttons (such as record and bookmark) are placed in the corners where they can be found by touch alone. When driving conditions permit, this design enables eyes-off operation, so public safety users can activate the system simply and quickly while focusing on driving, patrol or other higher-priority tasks. The same design language is used in both the LCD UI and the computer-based UI, so officers can easily switch between vehicles with computers and vehicles without them. SUPPORTING QUOTESLieutenant Ed Biehler, Bountiful City, Utah Police Department “Video is a critical element of modern police work, but the officer must be able to use the system efficiently and effectively. With the MVX1000 touch-screen control head, capturing video evidence is very intuitive, and we look forward to using it to serve our community.” Rod Guy, director of Product Operations, Video and Mobile Computing Solutions, Motorola Solutions “Video is extremely important for public safety, helping with everything from documenting incidents to corroborating offenses to protecting officers. The LCD control head for the MVX1000, part of Motorola Solutions' next generation public safety technology, is designed for simplicity and ease of use so that officers are free from distractions and can focus on protecting the public.” SUPPORTING RESOURCES Website: Motorola Solutions Next Generation Public SafetyWhite paper: Visualizing Increased Officer Protection and ProductivityTwitter: About Motorola Solutions Motorola Solutions is a leading provider of mission-critical communication solutions and services for enterprise and government customers.
