For Coke Zero and Ken Jeong There is More Than “Or”14:20 EDT Monday, July 02, 2012 ATLANTA (Business Wire) -- Tired of having to choose one good thing over another? Coca-Cola Zero hears you loud and clear, delivering a new spot that shows why “and” is always better than “or.” The commercial stars Ken Jeong who prefers the notion of “and” -- as in Real Coke Taste and Zero Calories -- over “or.” Facing a choice between two different movie genres, Jeong is suddenly inspired by his can of Coke Zero. Leaping into action, he performs his own quirky rendition of the song “War (What Is It Good For?).” By throwing down original dance moves and substituting the word “or” for “war,” Jeong lets passersby know that with Coke Zero, you can Enjoy Everything. Jeong, best known as Mr. Chow from “The Hangover” films and Señor Chang from “Community,” makes it clear that he's not willing to compromise -- he's looking for romance and action, or as he says, “romaction.” He wants his love story combined with the alien invasion, and won't settle for choosing one over the other -- just like Coke Zero drinkers. “Ken Jeong is a refreshing, rising star, much like the role Coke Zero plays in our expansive portfolio of low and no-calorie beverages,” said Katie Bayne, President and General Manager, Sparkling Beverages, Coca-Cola North America. “Coke Zero exists to fulfill people's thirst for great tasting refreshment while keeping calories in-check. Staying true to that promise has made it one of our most popular brands.” This new commercial is the latest tactic in a sustained, expanding marketing effort behind Coke Zero. This year alone the brand starred on the court at NCAA March Madness and had a supporting role with the Hollywood heavyweight “Battleship.” Coming up, Coke Zero will take to the track at the Coke Zero 400 in Daytona, and hit the gridiron to join rabid fans across the country to celebrate football. “Coke Zero shows what it means to ‘Enjoy Everything' by being everywhere people want to be,” said Bayne. “This new Coke Zero commercial with one of entertainment's hottest talents, is one of the many ways we continue to ramp up our focus on great tasting low and no calorie beverages.” The spot was created by Translation out of New York City and directed by Caviar's Jody Hill of Eastbound & Down fame. It aired for the first time July 1 on the BET channel, during the 2012 BET Music Awards. Coca-Cola was the presenting sponsor of the competition's Viewers' Choice Award -- allowing fans across the nation to vote for their favorite artist amongst six chart-topping nominees.
