University of Phoenix Reiterates Support for H.R. 4057-Improving Transparency of Education Opportunities for Veterans Act of 201212:49 EDT Tuesday, September 11, 2012 PHOENIX (Business Wire) -- University of Phoenix today reiterated its support for bipartisan legislation aimed at increasing transparency and accountability at all institutions that provide educational opportunities to student veterans. Introduced by House Committee on Veterans Affairs Vice Chairman Gus Bilarakis, H.R. 4057-Improving Transparency of Education Opportunities for Veterans Act of 2012-expands upfront counseling for veterans and establishes a formal student veteran complaint process at the Department of Veterans Affairs. On July 11, University of Phoenix sent a letter to House Committee on Veterans' Affairs Chairman Jeff Miller and Ranking Member Bob Filner in support of H.R. 4057. The University reiterated its support, issuing the following statement today: “With more than 12,000 active-duty and veterans student graduates last year alone, University of Phoenix has proudly led the way in meeting the unique educational needs of brave service members and their families. We recognized, however, that more needed to be done to enhance and protect the Post-9-11 G.I. Bill and other vital benefits for those who have sacrificed for our country. That's why we joined with various Veterans Service Organizations to outline specific reforms designed to support and protect military students, many of which are included in Rep. Bilarkis legislation and President Obama's Executive Order. Our strongly held view is that H.R. 4057 lays the foundation for a bipartisan solution to further assist student veterans and active duty service members and their families. We are committed to working closely with the Committees of jurisdiction in support of bipartisan efforts that promote accountability and transparency while protecting educational choice and access for military students.” For more information regarding University of Phoenix's record of providing flexible, relevant and rigorous degree programs to our nation's military visit www.apollogrp.edu/learnmore.
