The New York Times Neediest Cases Fund Announces Special Campaign to Raise Money to Support Relief Efforts for Victims of Hurricane Sandy11:06 EST Friday, November 09, 2012 NEW YORK (Business Wire) -- The New York Times Neediest Cases Fund announced today that it is launching a special campaign to raise money to support relief efforts to assist victims of Hurricane Sandy in the New York metropolitan area. The campaign's goal is to provide direct assistance to those affected through several local social service agencies. This campaign will be run with the Neediest Cases Fund's annual campaign. Money contributed for this special campaign will be directed to social service agencies participating in the Fund's annual campaign and to other agencies in support of Hurricane Sandy relief efforts to aid victims throughout the region. The Neediest Cases Fund will be contributing $1.5 million from its endowment to support disaster relief efforts by various agencies, including the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, the Atlantic City Rescue Mission and City Harvest, among others. The Neediest Cases Fund launched its 101st annual campaign earlier this month. The Fund works with seven large multiservice agencies to provide assistance to New Yorkers of all denominations in the metropolitan area: Brooklyn Community Services; Catholic Charities, Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens; Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York; The Children's Aid Society; Community Service Society of New York; Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies; and UJA-Federation of New York. “The Neediest Cases Fund has a long history of helping people in need and responding to sudden tragedy,” said Michael Golden, president of the Fund. “The impact of Hurricane Sandy has been devastating.
