The Co-operators raises $208,767 for United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin07:00 EST Wednesday, January 30, 2013GUELPH, ON, Jan. 30, 2013 /CNW/ - The Co-operators announced today that it has raised $208,767 for United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin. Guelph-based staff members donated $161,167 during a national campaign though pledges and creative fundraising events, while The Co-operators Foundation contributed $50 on behalf of each full time employee, totalling $47,600.In addition to generous pledges made by staff, the Guelph United Way campaign featured educational events and innovative fundraisers. Particularly successful was a staff-organized silent auction featuring items donated by local businesses, through which more than $3,000 was raised."Making a considerable contribution in the communities where we live and work is at the core of who we are as a Canadian co-operative," said Kathy Bardswick, President and CEO of The Co-operators. "Our commitment to supporting the United Way, and the vital services it funds, shines through with every creative staff-led campaign and volunteer effort we engage in."Nationally, The Co-operators group of companies raised $737,549 for the United Way. A series of local staff-led campaigns were conducted in offices throughout the country, with both individual donations and corporate contributions directed to local United Way chapters.The United Way is the largest non-government funder of social services and the voluntary sector in Canada.
