VANCOUVER, April 17, 2013 /CNW/ - Global BC's News Hour is leaving the studio and bringing its award-winning team outdoors this May with a special cross-province community tour. Led by Anchor Chris Gailus alongside Sports Anchor Squire Barnes and Meteorologist Kristi Gordon, the News Hour on the Road tour will broadcast LIVE from five different B.C. communities, giving viewers a chance to catch the province's most-watched newscast up-close and in-person. The News Hour on the Road tour begins Monday, May 6.
"The News Hour on the Road tour gives Global BC an opportunity to connect with communities on a grassroots level, and report on the topics and concerns that matter most to them. As we enter into an election period in B.C., the need to tell these stories becomes that much more important," says Kenton Boston, Vice President, B.C. and National News. "The tour also gives viewers an opportunity to meet Chris, Squire and Kristi, and see all the hard work that goes into putting the News Hour cast together each evening."
The News Hour on the Road tour will broadcast from the following communities and locations:
|Monday, May 6||Vancouver: The Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre|
|Tuesday, May 7||Prince George: University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) campus|
|Wednesday, May 8||Kelowna: Delta Grand Okanagan Resort & Conference Centre|
|Thursday, May 9||Nelson: Nelson City Hall|
|Friday, May 10||Victoria: front lawn of the British Columbia Legislature|
In addition to reporting on the biggest news of the evening, each News Hour on the Road cast will also include locally-rooted content and elements. Chris Gailus will contribute locally-focused stories and interviews highlighting interesting facts and pressing issues of most importance to each community. Squire Barnes will also focus a special segment on local sports stories, while Legislative Bureau Chief Keith Baldrey will put together a political look-ahead of each region leading up to the provincial election.
In conjunction with the News Hour on the Road tour, Global BC will also be launching a special contest giving viewers under the age of 12 the opportunity to help Meteorologist Kristi Gordon host a live weather broadcast. Launching today, the contest calls for parents and children from each of the five live locations to send in a photo and short paragraph explaining why they would like to deliver the weather. Five winners will then be selected to present alongside Kristi. Winners will also receive an iPod Touch courtesy of Sprott Shaw College as well as an honorary "Global BC Junior Meteorologist" certificate. Interested applicants are asked to visit GlobalNews.ca for additional contest details. The deadline to enter is Sunday, April 28.
