Mitel IT Survey Shows Removing Legal Barriers Would Stimulate Cloud Investment in Europe

05:00 EDT Monday, April 29, 2013

UTRECHT, Netherlands, April 29, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cloud investment would increase significantly if legal barriers were removed, say more than half of the 650 IT managers who responded to a survey commissioned by Mitel® (Nasdaq:MITL) (TSX:MNW), a leading provider of cloud and premises based unified communications software solutions. Reliability, privacy and safety – all factors highly impacted by legislation – are the most frequently raised objections to investing more in the cloud.

The report echoes similar comments made by Neelie Kroes, vice-president of the European Commission responsible for the Digital Agenda, who during a press conference on cloud computing strategy stated that if legal barriers were removed, virtually every company would increase or start investment in the cloud, opening the door to significant economic and job creation benefits across Europe.

Mitel surveyed more than 650 IT managers who attended VMworld 2012 in Barcelona. More than half - 57% - agree with the statement that easing legal barriers would stimulate investment. The numbers are particularly high in the Netherlands (70%), UK (67%), Italy (66%) and Belgium & Luxembourg (56%), while respondents from Germany and Scandinavia think legislation has less impact on investment decisions.

Gijs Borsboom, Sales Director Northern Europe at Mitel: "It is great to know that so many respondents see cloud-based communications as the future and that they expect to see clear benefits from this. Given that the technology is reasonably new and at the start of the product life cycle, we were interested in learning from IT managers which factors are preventing them from moving their communications into the Cloud. The results show that taking away or easing legal barriers around such factors as reliability, privacy and safety could stimulate investment significantly."

With an installed base of more than 280,000 cloud users, Mitel's unique three-pronged cloud strategy delivers comprehensive and uniform support for public, private and hybrid cloud models. Through a single software stream, Mitel is able to equip service providers to deliver their own cloud offerings and enable end-users, like the Dutch government, to deploy Mitel Cloud Solutions in their own private cloud. In the United States, Mitel also offers its own public cloud offering under the brand Mitel AnyWare.
