08:31 EDT Tuesday, April 30, 2013

California and New York boast the most top brunch restaurants; Florida, Georgia, Texas, and Washington, D.C. eateries well represented

SAN FRANCISCO, April 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Just in time for Mother's Day, OpenTable (NASDAQ: OPEN), the world's leading provider of online restaurant reservations, is pleased to announce the 2013 Diners' Choice Award winners for Top 100 Best Brunch Restaurants in the United States. These awards reflect the combined opinions of more than 5 million reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners for more than 15,000 restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Winning restaurants, which include Belga Cafe in Washington, D.C., Cookshop in New York, and RESTAURANT at Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood, are scattered throughout 26 states and the nation's capital. The coastal states of California and New York have the greatest number of best restaurants for brunch, with 17 and 13, respectively. The South made a strong showing, with Florida claiming 8 winning restaurants and Georgia with 7 honorees. Texas and Washington, D.C. restaurants earned five places apiece, while Colorado, North Carolina, Virginia, and Washington each have four.  Illinois and Pennsylvania each have three award winners, while Hawaii, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, and Missouri have two. Arizona, Delaware, Indiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Utah, and Wisconsin are also represented. Belgian, Creole, French, Mediterranean, and Mexican fare are featured; however, American cuisine handily dominates the list.

"Americans didn't invent brunch, but these winning restaurants have come to define it," says Caroline Potter, OpenTable Chief Dining Officer. "Whether its folks seeking to kick-start Saturday dining adventures or gather with loved ones over a sumptuous meal on a Sunday afternoon, brunch is a national pastime for foodies, friends, and families."

The Diners' Choice Awards for the Top 100 Best Brunch Restaurants are generated from more than 5 million reviews collected from verified OpenTable diners between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013.  All restaurants with a minimum "overall" score and number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration.  Qualifying restaurants were then scored and sorted according to the percentage of qualifying reviews for which "great for brunch" was selected as a special feature.

Based on this methodology, the following restaurants, listed in alphabetical order, comprise the Top 100 Best Brunch Restaurants in the U.S. according to OpenTable diners.  The complete list may also be viewed at
