Ainsworth pointSIX Flooring Achieves Broad Market Acceptance

13:56 EDT Wednesday, May 01, 2013

VANCOUVER, Canada (Business Wire) -- Ainsworth (ANS:CN) – a leading manufacturer and supplier of engineered wood products for residential, commercial, and industrial applications – recently announced that its innovative new pointSIX® Flooring has achieved broad market acceptance and availability across all of Canada and throughout the U.S., with particularly strong market share in states west of the Mississippi. With sustained, compounded double-digit growth in its third year on the market, pointSIX Flooring has achieved success that has exceeded Ainsworth's expectations, and it is a clear sign that building material dealers and their contractor customers have recognized the high-performance features and cost avoidance of using pointSIX OSB products.

PointSIX Flooring is milled and treated around all four edges to create features that make OSB edge swelling a thing of the past. Ainsworth removes the part of the subfloor most prone to swelling by milling off a thin layer of the highly compressed fiber along the OSB edges. As a result, pointSIX virtually eliminates the need for sanding OSB edges that are swollen by moisture or rain. Ainsworth is so confident in the performance of pointSIX that the Company recently extended the pointSIX Durastrand® no-sand warranty from 180 days to one year.

PointSIX products are available in Ainsworth's standard OSB and Durastrand flooring. Both products are covered by remarkable warranties; winner of Architect magazine's 2011 R+D Award Citation for product innovation, pointSIX Durastrand OSB flooring offers a one-year “No-Sand” warranty, and a limited lifetime warranty on delamination. PointSIX Flooring offers a 25-Year limited warranty. For full warranty details, visit

PointSIX Flooring was launched after extensive research and testing, including subjecting the OSB panels to repeated wet and dry cycles to simulate severe, wet jobsite conditions. In one rigorous test, pointSIX OSB was flooded for 14 days. After drying out, the average edge swell was contained to 0.01 inch, not much more than a sheet of paper.

“The success of pointSIX Flooring follows other recent good news from Ainsworth,” said Bart Bender, Ainsworth's Vice President of Sales. “We recently announced plans to restart our High Level, Alberta OSB mill, where 135 new workers will help us fulfill growing demand for our ever-expanding OSB product lines.”
