New BC Perspectives Panel Survey from Hill+Knowlton Strategies draws correlation between consumer preference and voting intention
A new poll by Hill+Knowlton Strategies (H+K) draws some interesting parallels between consumer preferences and potential voting outcomes for the upcoming British Columbia (BC) provincial election.
The poll shows that British Columbians who drive SUVs and Crossovers have a strong preference for Christy Clark and the BC Liberal party. Conversely, compact car and truck drivers will more likely be voting for Adrian Dix and the BC New Democrat Party (NDP) in the election this Tuesday.
The survey of 804 British Columbians drawn from Hill+Knowlton's BC Perspectives Panel found that 45 per cent of SUV and crossover drivers chose Christy Clark's BC Liberals as their voting preference, while only 31 per cent of this group would vote for Adrian Dix's NDP. Those who drive compact cars and trucks show a lot more enthusiasm for Team Orange – 49 per cent and 43 per cent respectively of these groups plan to mark their ballot for the NDP.
Choice of vehicle wasn't the only consumer preference parallel the poll drew. H+K also looked at British Columbians' coffee preferences and found there was no statistical difference between Starbucks or Tim Hortons coffee shop patrons and their preference in political party. Clearly, the stereotype of the “latté Liberal” does not hold true in British Columbia.
The poll also asked respondents who they would vote for with the BC NDP holding a 6.5 per cent lead over the BC Liberals (41.1 per cent to 34.6 per cent). The Green Party and BC Conservative Party trailed significantly in third and fourth place in the polling (13.6 per cent and 7.5 per cent respectively).
The results also show that only 70 per cent of respondents who chose BC NDP as their party of choice selected NDP leader Adrian Dix as their "best Premier" choice. This compared to the 80 per cent of respondents who chose BC Liberal as their party of choice who also selected Liberal leader Christy Clark as their "best Premier" choice.
