The Hartford Expands Absence Management Suite To Help Employers Reduce Costs, Maximize Productivity

09:50 EDT Monday, April 22, 2013

HARTFORD, Conn. (Business Wire) -- To help employers better manage employee absence, The Hartford has expanded its absence management suite of products and services, including a new web reporting tool, a series of webinars, a digital educational resource, and a service that helps employers track and manage employee requests for reasonable accommodations as afforded under the Americans With Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA).

“With the total cost of absence consuming about 35 percent of payroll1 employers are looking for effective ways to manage absenteeism,” said Mike Concannon, executive vice president of The Hartford's Group Benefits. “Our leadership position in group benefits2 and workers compensation3 combined with our 12 years of leave management experience provides our clients with powerful integrated strategies into managing absence and maximizing employee productivity.”

The Hartford's new web reporting tool called Employer View for Absence Management includes:

  • Dashboards that summarize company-wide absences at a glance;
  • Access to key details on specific absence events; and
  • Integrated absence reports with a variety of filtering options.

The expanded absence management suite also features a service that helps facilitate the collection of records associated with an employee's request for an ADAAA disability accommodation. This service helps ease the burden on employers with employee requests for reasonable accommodations under the ADAAA.

To further help employers understand federal and state laws regarding absence, The Hartford will hold three webinars in May:

  • An overview of the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) at 1 p.m. Eastern on May 7;
  • Leave as an accommodation under the amended ADAAA at 1 p.m. on May 14; and
  • California regulations on pregnancy and disability discrimination at 1 p.m. on May 21.

As one of the country's largest writers of workers' compensation3 The Hartford has been offering worksite assessment and loss control services to its workers' compensation customers for decades; The Hartford now offers this service to its customers with group disability insurance. The Hartford's team of loss control professionals offers on-site assistance on several return-to-work issues.

In addition, The Hartford has launched Absence Insights (, a digital educational resource for absence research, which includes a number of absence related articles and videos.

A market leader in providing employer-paid and voluntary life, disability and accident insurance,2 The Hartford helps companies offer their employees ways to prepare and protect themselves, their families, and their income, even if the unexpected happens. Providing leave management since 2001, The Hartford has covered more than one million employees.

“We understand that employers are looking for a holistic strategy to keep their teams healthy and productive,” said Eric Brandt, senior vice president of The Hartford's Group Benefits Claims. “Our absence management services include prevention, intervention, interpretation, and coordination of absence with the goal of healthy and productive employees.”
