Dell Helps CSM Media Research Enable Commercial SDN Application09:00 EDT Tuesday, June 11, 2013
ROUND ROCK, Texas (Business Wire) -- Dell and CSM Media Research have successfully enabled the commercial application of private cloud SDN (software-defined networking) with Dell's modular networking solutions. Major networking use cases include end-to-end management of a 10G network, network virtualization and real-time traffic monitoring across the network, as well as collaborative management. This successful cooperation will help CSM Media Research improve network security, agility and flexibility for future growth and is also a milestone as Dell's first commercial SDN solution in China.
CSM Media Research is one of the most authoritative television and radio audience measurement research institutions in China, with the world's largest audience measurement panel network. Established in 1997, the audience rating data provided by CSM is regarded as a key indicator in the broadcasting market.
CSM's commercial SDN deployment encompasses both network virtualization and network monitoring across a Dell 10G network architecture. The solution also includes Big Switch Networks Open SDN Suite as the SDN controller and application platform running on Dell's OpenFlow-enabled switches in a high-performance, converged and virtualized private cloud environment. The entire datacenter and campus networking infrastructure includes Dell Networking Z9000 40G core switches, Dell Networking S4810 10G distributed core, and Dell Networking 5500, 6200, 8100 switches. Additional components include Dell Active Fabric Manager, virtualized application and data security monitoring, as well as Dell Networking W-series wireless solution.
As a global IT solutions provider, Dell continuously improves its networking business, especially in the SDN area. With established and enhanced technologies, Dell is one of the only vendors to offer a complete and impartial approach to SDN, encompassing networking virtualization overlays (NVO), OpenFlow and legacy interface capabilities. Dell's holistic approach to SDN meets network operators' demands by providing a comprehensive suite of modular solutions designed to easily integrate into existing environments without the headaches and costs typically associated with the integration of new technologies.
“There are different approaches to SDN. Our SDN strategy is to help customers migrate in the manner that's the most practical for them, not wholesale rip and replace. SDN is a logical extension to the enhanced network flexibility our Dell Active Fabric solutions provide. Working with partners such as Big Switch, the software abstraction layer that SDN delivers is designed to enable open programmability, making infrastructure flexible and adaptable to different customer environments.” - Arpit Joshipura, vice president, Dell Networking.
“We partner with Dell because of its international management, strong technical strengths, as well as flexible, efficient and responsive delivery capability. Dell is one of the only vendors to offer a complete and impartial approach to SDN. We hope that CSM and Dell can contribute a successful commercial case leveraging the advantages of CSM's technology and resources management efficiency through the deep cooperation with Dell.” - Chen Dong, CIO, CSM Media Research
“Dell's commitment to SDN gives us a great opportunity to showcase the value of OpenFlow. Together, we are able to deliver an integrated solution with Dell's OpenFlow-enabled switches and Big Switch Networks Big Virtual Switch and SDN applications. We are excited to see customers like CSM and others successfully deriving value from SDN " - Guido Appenzeller, Big Switch CEO and co-founder.
