NEW YORK (Business Wire) -- This June, get your motor running and enjoy a trip back in time as Macy's celebrates the 80th anniversary of the drive-in theater with its own version of the beloved activity, “Macy's Great American Drive-In.” As part of Macy's American Icons campaign, Macy's Great American Drive-In will pay homage to this time-honored family tradition by providing customers with a free showing of “The Smurfs”™ in pop-up drive-ins at select Macy's stores and existing drive-in theaters nationwide.
“Macy's American Icons campaign is an all-star salute to the American way and going to the drive-in theater is a cherished pastime that can be enjoyed by the whole family,” said Martine Reardon, Macy's chief marketing officer. “There is great magic and excitement in attending a drive-in movie, and with this event, we can bring that experience to families nationwide.”
Throughout the month of June, Macy's Great American Drive-In will have customers revving up engines across the country as the retailer celebrates a truly American activity, the drive-in theater. In select communities, drive-in events will offer children of all ages the opportunity to attend a screening of the family blockbuster, “The Smurfs” and a sneak peek of the upcoming family comedy, “The Smurfs 2”™, in theaters July 31. To get energized pre-show, attendees are urged to come early for a free evening filled with family-friendly carnival activities, top tunes, delicious treats, giveaways and more. Plus, for events at Macy's locations, shop Macy's kids' department that day, and with any purchase of $40 or more in children's apparel, customers will receive a Macy's Drive-In lawn chair souvenir to watch “The Smurfs” in style.
