11:06 EDT Thursday, June 27, 2013

SEATTLE (Business Wire) -- U.S. Bank has promoted Thomas Roberts to the position of region manager and head of U.S. Bank's branch network for the Washington Metropolitan Region. He succeeds Chris Heman, who became president of U.S. Bank in Washington earlier this year.

Roberts is a 23-year banking veteran, starting as a teller and working his way into top leadership positions. Most recently, he was a district manager for U.S. Bank in the San Francisco region, where he had been for 8 years. In his new role, he will lead 650 employees at 70 branches in Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, Bellevue, Everett and the surrounding areas.

“Thomas has been instrumental in growing a presence for U.S. Bank in San Francisco, both in terms of business and in U.S. Bank's support of the communities it serves,” Heman said. “He understands the importance of our role as a trusted financial resource not only to our customers but also in giving time and resources to organizations that are making a difference in the community.”

"Seattle is an important market for U.S. Bank," said John Elmore, vice chairman of community banking and branch delivery at U.S. Bank. "We have a strong team serving our Puget Sound consumer and business customers. I'm proud of U.S. Bank's legacy in the market and I know Thomas will continue that momentum in the future."

Roberts is dedicated to health and human services. He recently completed a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds and awareness for the San Francisco Aids Foundation. He plans to be similarly involved in community organizations in Seattle.

Roberts earned a bachelor's degree from San Jose State University, and is a graduate of Pacific Coast Banking School in Seattle, where he wrote a thesis about "Leading the Millennial Generation in Retail Banking."

Celebrating its 150th birthday in 2013, U.S. Bank is a proud to be a part of the Seattle community. With 88 branches and more than 1,400 employees, U.S. Bank is the third-largest retail bank in the market. Last year, its employees gave back by spending more than 3,400 hours volunteering with local organizations. Statewide, U.S. Bank provided more than $2.4 million in contributions to the community.
