Taiga's net profit up by 39% for the 6 months ended September 30, 201220:43 EST Thursday, November 08, 2012BURNABY, BC, Nov. 8, 2012 /CNW/ - Taiga Building Products Ltd. ("Taiga" or the "Company") today reported its quarterly results for the three and six months ended September 30, 2012.Three Months Ended September 30, 2012The Company's consolidated net sales for the quarter ended September 30, 2012 were $315.9 million compared to $278.0 million in the same period last year. The 13.6% increase in sales was largely due to higher commodity prices.Gross margin for the quarter ended September 30, 2012 increased to $28.9 million from $27.9 million in the previous year. Gross margin percentage for the quarter declined to 9.1% compared to 10.1% in the same period last year. The decline in gross margin percentage was primarily due to changes in product mix towards increased commodity volumes.Net earnings for the quarter ended September 30, 2012 were $3.8 million compared to $3.3 million in the same period last year, an increase of 14.2%.EBITDA for the quarter ended September 30, 2012 was $12.9 million compared to $11.4 million last year, an increase of 13.5%.Six Months Ended September 30, 2012The Company's consolidated net sales for the six months ended September 30, 2012 were $625.4 million compared to $541.6 million in the same period last year. The 15.5% increase in sales was largely due to higher commodity prices and stronger demand fueled by early arrival of spring this year compared to the same period last year.Gross margin for the six months ended September 30, 2012 increased to $59.7 million from $54.7 million in the previous year. Gross margin percentage for the quarter declined to 9.5% compared to 10.1% in the same period last year.Net earnings for the six months ended September 30, 2012 were $9.7 million compared to $7.0 million in the same period last year, an increase of 39.4%.
