San Diego-based education provider showed its "pay it forward spirit" by supporting children, education, and the military

SAN DIEGO, June 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI) has been awarded the 2013 Heilbron Award for Outstanding Service to the Community by San Diego Rotary Club 33 and the San Diego Business Journal. Bridgepoint won first place in the large company category for its charitable activities in 2012, thanks in large part to its support of 279 non-profits, more than 9,000 volunteer hours on behalf of the organization's employees, and donations totaling more than $1.9 million.

"Make-A-Wish San Diego is proud to be among Bridgepoint Education's community partners," stated Chris Sichel, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish San Diego. "We are able to grant more wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses because of Bridgepoint's generosity. Their employees give generously of their time, talents, and treasures to care for our wish kids and are among our most active volunteers. 'Giving back' is not a slogan for Bridgepoint, it is part of their DNA, and is found at every level of the organization."

"The employees of Bridgepoint Education, Ashford University, and University of the Rockies are honored to receive the Heilbron Award for Outstanding Service to the Community," declared Andrew Clark, president and CEO of Bridgepoint Education. "Thousands of our employees gave of themselves to better those around us, and I couldn't be more proud. Our commitment to giving back to the communities we call home is at the core of what we do."

Bridgepoint Education's charitable activities touched many worthy recipients, including Make-A-Wish San Diego; Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego; Junior Achievement; Just in Time for Foster Youth; Promises2Kids; Boys & Girls Clubs; REBOOT; Warrior Foundation; as well as scholarships for students, teachers, and military spouses.
