Farley unit 1 automatically shuts down, safety systems respond as designed

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., June 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On June 11 at 9:05 p.m. CT, Plant Farley's unit 1 reactor automatically shut down due to the failure of a transformer.

All Plant Farley safety systems operated as designed and expected. The unit is safe and stable, and plant personnel are investigating the cause of the shut down. There was no risk to the public and no injuries to plant personnel.

Plant Farley unit 2 continues to operate safely at 100 percent power.
