GE Marine Announces Engine Sales to Dongwon Industries and Hansung Enterprises

19:00 EDT Monday, October 21, 2013

BUSAN, South Korea (Business Wire) -- Today at the Kormarine International Shipbuilding and Marine Equipment Exhibition in Busan, South Korea,GE Marine announced the sale of three 16V250 marine diesel engines: two engines to Dongwon Industries (www.dwml.co.kr/eng.asp), one of the world's largest tuna fishery companies; and one engine to Hansung Enterprises (www.hsep.com/en/), a leading Korean seafood and fishery company.

The GE Marine engines will power 80-meter-long tuna purse seiners. The engines are IMO (International Maritime Organization) Tier II and KRS (Korean Register of Shipping) certified and scheduled for commissioning in early 2014. Local support is provided by GE Marine's regional distributor, YusinHR.

“We are pleased that Dongwon and Hansung each chose to add GE Marine engines to power their world-class fishing fleets,” said John Manison, general manager of GE Marine. “These engines are noted for delivering fuel savings, lower life cycle costs and ease of maintenance —making them ideal for these ships.”

GE has been designing and building high-performance diesel engines for more than 40 years. Today, GE Marine is one of the leading manufacturers of medium-speed diesel engines in the world.

GE Marine's family of medium-speed marine diesel engines includes 12- and 16-cylinder V250 models. The V250 is designed not only for higher efficiency and lower emissions but also for improved reliability, maintainability and reduced fuel consumption. The engine's trim design and high power-to-weight ratio provides a distinct advantage when installation space is at a premium.

With more than 15,000 engines operating worldwide in some of the most challenging industrial environments, GE's medium-speed engines are dependable, long-lasting, durable and efficient. From tugboats in Turkey and fishing vessels in Peru to offshore construction vessels in Norway and ferries in the USA, GE's marine engines are supported by an extensive global parts distribution and services network.
