08:05 EDT Monday, September 30, 2013

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 30, 2013) - Calian Technologies Ltd. (TSX:CTY) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract valued at $14 million by the Department of National Defence (DND) for omnibus courseware production services. Calian, along with subcontractors Bluedrop Performance Learning Inc. and Valcom Consulting Group Inc., will be developing and supporting courseware projects by providing e-learning production, distribution and related support services to the Army Learning Support Centre (ALSC). The contract starts in October 2013 and will run to March 31, 2016.

Calian and its subcontractors have been providing e-learning services to ALSC since 2007, and this contract expands upon those services with the addition of a full cadre of e-learning support services.

"We are thrilled with the award of the ALSC contract as it extends our long-standing relationship with the Canadian Army. Through the award of the ALSC contract, Calian and its subcontractor team will employ approximately 60 highly qualified employees in Atlantic Canada. This important win highlights our strengths in e-learning services and further demonstrates our growing market share in this arena as well as our ability to assemble and manage a quality team," stated Kevin Ford (President, Calian BTS Division).

"We are pleased to be part of the Calian team providing e-learning services to the Canadian Army. Our core capabilities in project management coupled with the technical strength of other team members brought to bear under the professional management of Calian will provide the customer with an excellent solution to their stated requirements," stated Jean Thivierge (Valcom Vice-President).

"We are pleased to be working with Calian to provide e-learning services for the Army Learning Support Centre (ALSC)," said Emad Rizkalla, founder and CEO of Bluedrop Performance Learning. "We will be supporting the important work of the Canadian Army through the development and delivery of quality e-learning content, which includes distributed learning (DL), delivered via DNDLearn, e-learning assets, and training games and simulation," Rizkalla added.
