US$55,550 grant from UPS helps support capital improvements
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 26, 2013 /CNW/ - UPSers and The Darling Home for Kids gathered together with the Minister of State (Sport) and the MP for Bramalea-Gore-Malton, Honourable Bal Gosal to celebrate a US$55,550 grant presentation, courtesy of The UPS Foundation.
"I am proud to be a part of this celebration that showcases the commitment of our local businesses to give back to our shared community through volunteerism and financial support," said Minister of State Gosal.
The Darling Home for Kids offers three core programs: respite, palliative and residential care for medically complex children and their families. To complement the respite and hospice care, the Home also offers therapeutic programs to assist in developmental and skills growth.
Through the grant the Home will be able to make capital improvements that will assist in making service delivery more effective. Specifically, the scope of the project involves HVAC re-zoning for the Palliative Wing, expanding the size of the laundry area and the installation of a new ceiling lift.
"We truly appreciate UPS's efforts to give back to their community," said Executive Director, Kristin Horrell, The Darling Home for Kids. "With this gift, some of the critical projects on our capital wish list will finally be realized."
The Darling Home for Kids is a 12-bed pediatric hospice located in Milton, Ontario. The Home is committed to helping improve the quality of the lives of children and helping provide a comforting atmosphere at the Home, as well as with the Helping Hands Volunteer Program and the therapeutic programs.
Organizations are nominated for grants by UPS employees and must have benefited from 50 hours of hands-on volunteering from UPS employees to qualify. UPS Canada employees volunteered more than 34,950 hours to more than 400 charitable organizations across Canada in 2012. Specifically at The Darling Home for Kids, 59 UPS volunteers contributed more than 270 hours.
"I am thankful to have personal experience volunteering with the Home and know first hand the great work they do for children and families in our communities. It is my pleasure to present them with this grant to help them better serve their residents," said Frank Keller, vice-president of finance, UPS Canada and board member of The Darling Home for Kids. "At UPS, we have long believed in the commitment to supporting our communities through a balance of financial contributions and hands-on volunteering."
