MONTRÉAL, Aug. 30, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Bell today announced the launch of next-generation Fibe TV service in Ottawa, bringing consumers superior choice in television and unprecedented new competition for traditional cable TV.

"Bell's unmatched investments in next-generation broadband networks and services are bringing the best communications innovations the world has to offer to Canadians. With an investment of $155 million in the new Ottawa Fibe network, consumers in our nation's capital now have access to the best TV and Internet experience available," said George Cope, President and CEO of Bell Canada and BCE Inc.

Fibe is growing fast. Bell gained 50,555 new Fibe TV customers in the second quarter of 2013 - 31.4% more than the year before and the best quarterly growth since the launch of Fibe TV in late 2010. At the end of Q2 2013 (June 30), Fibe TV subscribers totalled 346,316, more than double the number a year before.

Fibe TV's advanced features include:

  • The exclusive wireless TV receiver that gives customers the full Fibe experience on up to 5 additional TVs anywhere in the home - without extra wires.
  • The exclusive Whole Home PVR that allows customers to set, manage and play back recordings and pause and rewind live TV from up to 6 TVs in the home.
  • The most HD On Demand content
  • Apps right on your TV including Facebook, Twitter, TSN Xtra and more.
  • Superior picture quality, the best on-screen guide and super-fast channel change.

Fibe customers can also access the new Bell TV app to watch more than 100 live and On Demand channels on their tablets and smartphones. They can also stop and resume on demand programming between their TV at home and their mobile device while on the go.

Packaged with Bell Fibe TV, Fibe Internet service offers both fast download and upload speeds, free McAfee Security and Wi-Fi home network, and an unlimited Internet option for more streaming, downloading and uploading without having to keep track of usage.

Fibe TV is available in a 3-service bundle starting at $22.95 a month for the first 6 months, with a Whole Home PVR and wireless receiver included at no additional cost.

Fibe TV is available today in most Ottawa neighbourhoods and expanding quickly across the city. By the end of this year, Fibe TV will be available to more than 4 million households throughout Ontario and Québec.
