Power of a smile: Annual Tim Hortons fundraiser raises more than $5 million

100% of proceeds from Smile Cookie sales will support local charities across North America

OAKVILLE, ON, Oct. 18, 2013 /CNW/ - Tim Hortons guestsand restaurant ownersshowed off their community spirit, raising over $5 million in support of local charities for the annual Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign. For one week, Tim Hortons guests had the opportunity to purchase special chocolate chunk Smile Cookies for $1, with all proceeds supporting local hospitals and community programs across Canada and the United States. More than 500 charities are supported each year through the campaign.

"Our loyal guests and restaurant owners have once again come together to support the communities they call home," said David McMullen, Vice President, Marketing, Tim Hortons. "Thank you to everyone for raising much needed funds for local charities coast-to-coast and making this year's campaign a success."

The Smile Cookie campaign started in 1996 to help raise funds for the Hamilton Children's Hospital in Ontario and has grown to become a major fundraising event at Tim Hortons restaurants across North America. In 2012, the campaign raised more than $4 million for local communities across Canada and the United States.
