Cenovus donates $600,000 to Grasslands School Division No. 6

17:00 EDT Monday, March 17, 2014

CALGARY, March 17, 2014 /CNW/ - Cenovus Energy Inc. (TSX: CVE) (NYSE: CVE) today announced a $600,000 donation to be made over three years to Grasslands School Division No.6 for its Literacy Initiative. The donation will provide literacy resources for 20 schools in southeastern Alberta. This project represents a key step towards the division's main goal of achieving 100 percent high school completion rates by 2016.

"Our investment in the Grasslands School Division is a strong example of our long-term support for education," says Leanne Courchesne, Cenovus Group Lead, Community Investment. "We hope this donation will positively influence students, helping them to stay in school and increase graduation rates. At Cenovus, we know investing in all types of education will help create a vibrant future for our communities."

Students throughout the division will benefit from this new partnership as the initiative aims to improve students' reading and writing skills by focusing on three main areas; literacy instruction, assessment, and classroom resources.

"We would like to thank Cenovus for their generous donation towards the purchase of classroom literacy resources in Grasslands schools," said David Steele, Superintendent of Grasslands. "We appreciate this three-year commitment and believe that this partnership will make a positive difference in the lives of the students in the County of Newell."

This announcement comes just weeks after Cenovus also announced a three-year commitment to support literacy and career development in Northlands School Division No. 61 in northern Alberta.
