MONTRÉAL, March 19, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Bell today applauded the Government of Ontario for helping to improve the mental health of the province's children and adolescents by funding a new Eating Disorders Unit at the Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, a hospital proudly supported by the Bell Let's Talk mental health initiative.

"Bell Let's Talk supports community-based mental health programs across Canada and we've seen first-hand how Ontario Shores helps children and young people get well," said Mary Deacon, Chair of Bell Let's Talk. "By providing Ontario Shores with funds to establish the new residential treatment facility, the Ontario government is making mental health treatment more available for youth and families from across the province. We applaud Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Deb Matthews for helping to address this need."

Bell Let's Talk support for Ontario Shores Foundation for Mental Health began with a $150,000 donation in 2012 to establish the Bell Canada Youth Mental Health Clinic at Ontario Shores. The clinic provides specialized treatment and intensive outreach for youth with complex mental health issues who may be reluctant to access services or require significant support for reintegration.

The relationship between Bell Let's Talk and Ontario Shores is also helping break down the stigma that prevents many who suffer with mental illness from getting the treatment they need.
