Tiger Woods Voted August PGA Tour Player of the Month Presented by Avis

11:00 EDT Tuesday, September 10, 2013

PARSIPPANY, N.J. and PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., Sept. 10, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- PGA TOUR and Avis Car Rental announced today that Tiger Woods has been voted the August PGA TOUR Player of the Month presented by Avis. As the official rental car company of the PGA TOUR, Avis will make a $50,000 contribution to the Tiger Woods Foundation.

In a fan decision on PGATOUR.COM, Woods outpolled Jason Dufner, Patrick Reed and Adam Scott. The four were nominated by a panel of national media for their performances during the month of August. This month's recognition marks the third time that Woods has received the honor. He was named Player of the Month presented by Avis in June of 2012 and March of 2013.

"I want to thank all of the fans who voted for me as PGA TOUR Player of the Month and Avis for their kind contribution to my Foundation," Woods said. "At the Foundation we believe every child deserves the opportunity to attend college and our college-access programs help them get there. This donation is essential in helping us reach our goals."

During the month of August, Woods won the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational for the eighth time in his career, posting a second-round 61 at Firestone Country Club en route to a seven-stroke victory over Henrik Stenson and Keegan Bradley. Woods' 79 career PGA TOUR wins is three shy of Sam Snead's all-time record of 82. With his fifth title of 2013, Woods now has 10 seasons with five or more TOUR victories. In his other three starts in August, Woods finished tied for second at the first FedExCup Playoff event, The Barclays, tied for 40th at the PGA Championship and tied for 65th at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

"We applaud Tiger Woods' achievement and congratulate him on winning the fan vote for PGA TOUR Player of the Month," said Jeannine Haas, chief marketing officer, Avis Budget Group. "We are pleased to donate another $50,000 on his behalf to his foundation."

Since its inception in 1996 by Tiger Woods and his father, Earl, the Tiger Woods Foundation has reached millions of underserved young people through unique college-access programs. For scholars in grades 5-12, the Tiger Woods Learning Centers provide hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering and math while the Earl Woods Scholarship Program provides admissions counseling, college scholarships, dedicated mentors, specialized internships and vital workshops.
