South Carolina Electric & Gas Company Files Joint Petition Seeking Order to Discontinue the Electric Weather Normalization Adjustment (eWNA)

16:18 EST Tuesday, November 26, 2013

CAYCE, S.C., Nov. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G), principal subsidiary of SCANA Corporation (NYSE:SCG), AARP, Frank Knapp (a residential and commercial customer of SCE&G), and the South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff (ORS) collectively filed a joint petition today with the Public Service Commission of South Carolina (SCPSC) seeking an order authorizing SCE&G to discontinue the Electric Weather Normalization Adjustment (eWNA) mechanism for all bills rendered on and after the first billing cycle of January 2014.

"The intent of implementing the Weather Normalization Adjustment mechanism was to provide relief to customers in periods of extreme fluctuations in weather," said Keller Kissam, President of SCE&G Retail Operations.  "Since that time the eWNA mechanism has collectively reduced customers' electric bills; however, in response to the concerns of consumers and the South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff, we have decided to request an order from the SCPSC to end the eWNA program."

SCE&G's prospective earnings guidance will continue to be based upon "normal weather;" however, variations from such will now impact reported results.

SCANA Corporation, headquartered in Cayce, SC, is an energy-based holding company principally engaged, through subsidiaries, in electric and natural gas utility operations and other energy-related businesses.
