TD-LTE to Cover 3 Billion People in 201409:18 EST Friday, February 28, 2014
HONG KONG, Feb. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The number of TD-LTE base stations around the world will hit 800,000, covering 3 billion people, and 150 million LTE terminals will be sold this year, according to the 2014 plan released by Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) at the LTE TDD/FDD International Summit 2014, which was held in Barcelona, Spain on February 25 during the GSMA World Mobile Congress 2014.
Jointly founded by China Mobile, Bharti, SoftBank and other leading international mobile network operators in 2011, GTI has become the most influential platform to promote the global deployment and commercialization of TD-LTE.
Focusing on the key areas for TD-LTE commercialization, GTI has set up a complete working group system covering network, terminal, spectrum and service and made great breakthroughs in these fields. It has released a wide range of white papers for multi-mode and multi-band terminals, spectrum, networks, synchronization, 3.5GHz and consumer electronics, and has launched 5-mode 13-band smartphones with global roaming capability. GTI has been committed to promoting the global deployment of TD-LTE by catalyzing the convergence of LTE TDD/FDD, maturity and large scale application of LTE terminals, enhancing the global roaming and widespread applications of TD-LTE to consumer electronic and Internet of Things while driving rapid development of the industry chain and international market expansion for the related industries.
Now, GTI has 73 partners and 100 operator members. With the efforts made by GTI, there are already 28 commercial TD-LTE networks in the world, and more than 40 operator members are planning to construct TD-LTE networks in their countries.
