He replaces Allen Ambrose, a founder of the company, who was re-elected to the board.

McEwen is perhaps best known as the founder and former chairman and CEO of Goldcorp Inc.

He is currently the chairman and CEO of US Gold Corporation and recently launched his own junior gold index.

Minera Andes is a gold, silver and copper exploration company working in Argentina. It owns 49 per cent of the San Jose silver/gold mine and is exploring the Los Azules copper project.
