Shoppers at Rona in Brossard, Que.Christinne Muschi

Rona's commercial and professional Noble subsidiary has expanded its Canadian reach with the acquisition of a plumbing retailer north of Montreal for an undisclosed price.

The Canadian hardware and home renovation company said it has purchased La Boutique Plomberie Decoration 25 Inc. in St-Eustache, Que..

The 25-year-old specialized plumbing company has one retail store and a parts outlet. It supplies consumers, contractors and plumbers.

An expansion over the coming months will nearly double the size of its 1,350-square-metre showroom.

Rona vice-president Michael Storfer said the addition complements recent acquisitions of Plomberie Payette & Perreault and plumbing distributor LGC in Quebec.

"We expect that it will generate significant buying synergies with our existing operations in this segment," he said.

Noble's goal is to establish a national platform in the commercial and professional market offering plumbing and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) services as well lumber and building materials.

La Boutique is the sixth acquisition by the Noble division in the past year.

Formed in late 2007, it includes 63 stores and outlets, four distribution centres and three manufacturing facilities in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia.

Rona is Canada's largest distributor and retailer of hardware, renovation and gardening products. It has some 950 stores, more than 30,000 employees and generates more than $6-billion annual retail sales.
