General Questions

Can I delete my past comments on globeandmail.com?

You can select to delete your comments however our editorial and legal policy is that we do not remove comments from articles or questions posed in online discussions.

This is because your comments are part of a public record. This is no different than if you are interviewed in a newspaper, or on TV or radio. Those media outlets cannot take your quote off the printed page nor erase a tape on which they have recorded an interview.

We will, however, take a further look at the instructions, cautions and guidelines on our internet site to determine if they should be reworded to reflect the fact that a comment, once posted, lives in perpetuity and is indexed by search engines.

Why does The Globe and Mail allow comments?

The Globe and Mail encourages readers to comment on almost all of its news stories and on its blogs because we believe there is value in getting feedback from readers -- both positive and negative. It helps further our goal of fostering a national debate on key issues and also provides an avenue for readers to contribute information about news events that could help us in our reporting. Comments also help build valuable relationships between readers and our journalism.

What are the social media icons below the commenting box?

If you'd like to post your comment and a link to the comment to one of your social media accounts (eg: LinkedIn, Twitter or Facebook), simply check the box. You will see a message from the network you select asking for your permission to allow The Globe and Mail to post to your social media account on your behalf by entering your username and password. If you grant permission, you will see that your profile photo from that social network will appear along with all comments you make from now on. During our testing phase, it is not possible to de-link the account, but that is a feature that will be available for launch.

How are comments moderated?

In most cases our comments are post-moderated, which means that we don't review them prior to posting them (although we use an automated filter to block offensive words). Instead, we do our best to remove comments that have been flagged by our readers as abusive or offensive or otherwise in breach of our terms and conditions in some way. Comments are not edited or changed in any way by Globe and Mail editors. If we remove a comment because it breaches our terms and conditions, an automated message appears saying that the user's comment "was not consistent with our guidelines and has been removed". In some cases, repeat offenders may have their ability to access the globeandmail.com web site restricted. In some cases our comments are pre-moderated. If you post a comment on a pre-moderated story, you will see a message indicating that your comment will appear once it has been reviewed by a moderator.

How do I report an offensive comment?

You can do that by clicking on the "Report Comment" link, which is just below and to the right of each comment. Flagged comments go into a queue that is then reviewed by an editor, who decides whether the comment should be removed or not. Reviewing all of the flagged comments on the globeandmail.com web site can take some time, so comments may not be removed immediately. In some cases, the editor may decide that the comment doesn't breach our terms and conditions, and will allow the comment to remain. If it is removed for breaching our rules, an automated message will appear saying "[Reader's] comment was not consistent with our guidelines and has been removed". If you simply disagree with a commenter, please use the "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" buttons rather than flagging it as abusive.

How do I share articles?

You can share articles with friends through various social media sites. Depending on your platform or device this could include: Twitter, Facebook, e-mail, LinkedIn, BBM, etc.

How do I contact Customer Support at The Globe and Mail?

Please visit The Globe and Mail's Knowledge Base, Feedback and Contact Centre at feedback.theglobeandmail.com

What is the feedback mechanism for the Investor Tools and how do I use it?

We have implemented a software service that provides customer support tools. It offers Feedback Forums to understand the features customers care about most, a Support Ticket System to track and respond to customer support requests easily, and a Knowledge Base to answer common questions quickly and help users find the information they need when they need it. The feedback server is the main customer support tool for The Globe's Investor Tools and we encourage you to provide us with feedback about our Investor Tools through this forum.

How do I provide feedback?

Please provide feedback through the feedback forums. In the feedback forums, you can create a new idea, vote on existing ideas or comment on existing ideas. Your feedback is important as we work to create new journalism, improve features and add new tools for investors.

We have created four forums: Portfolio and Watchlist, Company Profile/Stock Quote pages, Screener and general suggestions. You can create as many feedback ideas in each of these forums as you like, comment on the ideas and vote on them. You get 10 votes per forum so that we can get a sense of how you would prioritize improvements and new features.

We love to receive feedback, good or bad. It is invaluable so that we invest our money in product features that customers want. Please provide feedback honestly, knowing that your ideas are public and may be moderated by the administrator.

It is better that you provide feedback in the forums. That way your fellow customers can vote on your ideas and we can get a sense of where to invest our money in important journalism and improvements.

Why is it important to provide feedback?

We're asking that you invest your time as a reader and subscriber to make our site, tools and content better. We'll be using these feedback forums to make decisions about where to invest our money on new journalism, feature improvements and new tools for investors. We'll only make the best business decisions on where to invest in improvements with your help.

Please go to the Feedback and Support area and start a conversation with your fellow customers and The Globe and Mail product team.

How do I let you know about a bug or error?

One of the best ways for us to discover bugs or missing pieces in our Investor Tools is thanks to your feedback. Please use the red Feedback and Support button on the bottom of Globe Investor sections and articles to provide feedback.

If you discover a bug, the best way to report it is to include as many details as possible (a screen grab is best) and let us know when the bug happened as well as what you were doing when you saw it. Details like what web browser and version you're using and whether you're on a Mac or PC get included automatically in your submission.

Why hasn't my suggestion been implemented yet?

Even if your idea in a good one, we have a limited budget for development. We try to prioritize bug fixes first. Then, we generally can work on one improvement or suggestion at a time. We hope you understand that this makes good business sense and hope you have some patience. Your ideas and feedback are important so that we can prioritize properly and spend every dollar wisely. We hope you will invest your time to help us do that.

How fast can you make improvements or add new features?

It depends on how complex the request is. Generally, we can make one improvement at a time and some of them will be slow to come. If there are many competing priorities, then it is going to take time to work through them. As with any business, we have a limited budget for development and need to make the best use of every dollar. Together with our customers, we're going to build the very best investing web site for Canadians.

Where did my Watchlist go?

The free Watchlist feature on the web site as well as in our mobile apps is unchanged and continues to be available. To make room for Portfolio and it's personalized home page, however, we have had to put the link to "Watchlist" in the third-tier of navigation. From Globe Investor, click "Portfolio & Tools" and then "Watchlist" to get to your Watchlist.

How do I find my old Watchlist?

The free Watchlist feature on the web site as well as in our mobile apps is unchanged and continues to be available. To make room for Portfolio and it's personalized home page, however, we have had to put the link to "Watchlist" in the third-tier of navigation. From Globe Investor, click "Portfolio & Tools" and then "Watchlist" to get to your Watchlist.

Where did the "Market Data" link go?

Market data such as index and stock data remains free, however the link to Market Data has been moved to the third-tier of navigation. From Globe Investor, click "Inside the Market" and then click "Market Data".

Inside the Market provides subscribers with up-to-the-minute insights on developing market news. Readers found it confusing to have both Inside the Market and Market Data in navigation at the same time.

Can I still use my existing Portfolio?

The free Portfolio tool will continue to be available after the launch of Investor Tools, but as is the life cycle of any product, we do see a day when the aging technology platform for it must be retired. Portfolio, as available in GlobeInvestorGOLD, is unchanged.

Can I keep using the old stock quote pages as I like them better?

You can use the old version of the page by logging out of Globe Unlimited and using the search box at the top of the web site. We'd like to know what you don't like about the new version, though and how we can improve it. Please provide some suggestions in the feedback forums. We have instructional videos to help you become familiar with it.

Can I import data from my brokerage account?

This feature is not currently available, primarily because of security protections and concerns that Canadian financial institutions have with account data aggregation providers. We understand the convenience this would offer in the context of Portfolio and continue to monitor developments in this space.

Is the market data new or different from the old Globe Investor web site or apps?

Business and investing readers use the data we present to make decisions and take actions that directly affect their professional success or personal wealth. Data integrity is a core value for our readers and for us. All metrics need to be verified as accurate, have internal consistency across our web site and apps and be delivered as quickly as possible. To this end, we are working with a new vendor, Thomson Reuters, to provide access to premium data and tools for subscribers. We expect this to meet reader and subscriber expectations, even as we work to resolve inconsistencies with features we have not yet switched.

What are the main features of The Globe's new Investor Tools?

The new investing tools are for Globe Unlimited subscribers. They include:

Portfolio -- providing you with a comprehensive overview of your investment performance.
Watchlist -- track investments and get the analysis, news and insight you need to make informed financial decisions.
Company Pages -- get news, analysis, financial information and interactive charts on current and potential investments.
Interactive Charts -- easily visualize and interpret stock data such as trends, momentum, peer performance and more.
Screener -- filter thousands of North American stocks through 50 criteria to find an investment that's right for you.
StockReports+ -- get a more accurate forecast of security's performance.

Why is this change being made?

The Globe and Mail has a successful history of offering state-of-the-art financial tools and resources for the Canadian investor to help our wealthy and well-educated subscribers take care of their money. We're committed to meeting the changing needs of our audience, therefore we are updating Globe Unlimited to include tools and features to meet the modern and robust demands of our readers.

Will I be able to use The Globe's Investor Tools on my mobile device?

The Investor Tools are available on a tablet device or large-format smartphone for the in-depth research of serious investors. At this time, they are not available in a custom presentation for smartphones or through mobile app.

Who are Globe Unlimited's Investor Tools for?

The new Investing Tools we are launching are for Globe Unlimited subscribers who are serious about investing and want to take care of their money, either as do-it-yourself investors or investors who like to do their own research along with an adviser. We hope these Investing Tools are easy to use, get better with time and help our subscribers successfully manage their wealth.

They will not be for professional investors or hyper-active day traders. These users have access to other more sophisticated and powerful trading toolsets, although Globe Unlimited is a product they could still use for their personal investments.

People who don't understand or pay attention to what their financial advisers do, as well as novice investors, should also build their investing skills with additional help before trying Globe Unlimited's new Investing Tools (eg: one place to start is Globe Investor's Investor Education section, which is free).

How up-to-date is the market data?

Stock quotes in Globe Unlimited are subject to a 15-minute delay by the originating stock exchange without incurring any additional charges for our subscribers. Globe Unlimited does not offer real-time quotes as a separate additional charge for Level 1 or Level 2 quotes as would be required.

I am a Globe Unlimited subscriber. How do I log in and access the Investor Tools?

To log in and access our Investor Tools, simply log in to your globeandmail.com account. A globeandmail.com log in account is the one you use to access your Watchlist, comment on articles and features, and receive newsletters. If you do not have a globeandmail.com log in account, you will need to create one in order to access your Globe Unlimited subscription. The log in information you use to access GlobeInvestorGOLD and Globe2Go are not globeandmail.com accounts. Please also be aware that the account you use to indicate a print newspaper subscription vacation stop online is also not considered a globeandmail.com log in account, and will not allow you to take advantage of your Globe Unlimited preferred price. You will still need to create a globeandmail.com log in account to access your Globe Unlimited subscription.

What is the Portfolio in Globe Unlimited?

The new Portfolio tool is a sophisticated investment tracking tool that offers personalized ideas and analysis. You'll always know the exact value of your portfolio and your up-to-the- second gains and losses.

Analytical tools give you a deeper understanding of your investments and provide a deep breakdown of their performance. You can set up as many Portfolios as you like to organize your investments.

Once you set up one or more Portfolios and Watchlists, we'll customize your news to show you the stories that will affect your investments and we'll offer the most relevant insights and opinion pieces from our columnists.

At the top of your Portfolio's page, you'll find its total current value, its one-day and one-month change, your total unrealized gains and losses and the name of your largest holding.

Underneath, you'll find a visualization of your equities' performance right now. Click anywhere in this area to expand the graphic visualization and learn more. The size of the circles represents the size of your holding in each company. Use the graphic for a quick understanding of the one-day performance of your investments. We hope you'll see a lot of green circles.

Underneath your Portfolio you'll find "Ideas and Insights for You".

First, you'll find the latest news from The Globe and our affiliate news providers on the investments in your Portfolio. Each story will have the ticker symbol for the investment mentioned in it next to the headline to help you quickly see how it is relevant to your Portfolio. Next, you'll see a return on investment chart showing you your Portfolio's performance since its inception.

Beside that, the StockReports+ table shows you how the companies in your Portfolio stack up to their peers.

A portfolio allocation section gives you a breakdown of the investments that make up your Portfolio. Charts will show you your asset allocation and sectors. Looking for diversification? This area will give you a quick snapshot of how you're doing.

At the bottom, the top ratios section provides tables of today's key ratios for the companies in your Portfolio.

How do I add stocks to my Portfolio?

Click "Add Stock or ETF." Start typing the name or symbol of your first company or ETF in the box. Auto-suggest will automatically start to predict what you're looking for. Choose the date you purchased your investment and the price will automatically calculate to the closing price on that day. Alternatively, you can fill in your own share price. Fill in the number of shares and your total buy price will automatically calculate. Click "Add" and now it's part of your Portfolio. Repeat the same process to add as many stocks and ETFs as you'd like.

How do I add funds to my Portfolio?

Click "Add Fund". Start typing the name of the fund you'd like to add.

How do I add cash to my Portfolio?

Use the cash area at the bottom of the page to add or withdraw cash to and from your portfolio. Use the dropdown menu to select deposit or withdrawal; use the calendar to select your transaction date; enter the amount and click "Add Transaction".

How does dividend reinvestment work in the Globe Unlimited Portfolio?

There are two options for treatment of dividends in Portfolio. Dividends can be paid directly into your cash account for the Portfolio. They will show up there as individual transactions. This is the default. Or you can have the dividend reinvested in the purchase of additional shares. Each dividend will be used to increase your number of shares, including partial shares, for that holding. To view these transactions, select "View Transactions" from the dropdown menu on the right-hand side of the row for that holding. The dividend management treatment you choose is valid for the date when you select it, so if you change to reinvest dividends, they will be reinvested from the date you make that change.

How do stock splits and takeovers work in the Globe Unlimited Portfolio?

Portfolio will automatically adjust your number of shares for stock splits and reverse splits, also known as consolidations, so that the correct value for your holding is shown. No action is required from you to make this happen.

A record of the adjusting transaction can be seen by selecting "View Transactions" from the dropdown menu on the right-hand side of the row for that holding.

If you are backdating transactions to a time before a split or reverse split, Portfolio will pick up the original price and make all necessary adjustments from then on, so there is no need to make this adjustment yourself when entering history.

How is U.S. dollar foreign exchange calculated in the Globe Unlimited Portfolio?

All dollar amounts in Portfolio are shown in Canadian dollars unless otherwise denoted with a "(U.S.)". All individual holding values as well as gains and losses include the effect of any fluctuation in foreign exchange during the time you owned the shares. This means that there is a possibility of having a gain or loss on a holding even if the share price change was negative or positive.

This is different from the presentation on GlobeInvestorGOLD, where foreign exchange changes were removed at the individual holding level. This change was made to better reflect the true performance and portfolio for Canadian investors.

What is the Watchlist in Globe Unlimited?

Watchlists are a great way to track investments you may be thinking about buying, but haven't committed to yet. Create as many Watchlists as you like the same way you create Portfolios.

We provide the same analysis, news, charts and tables for Watchlists as we do for Portfolios.

Flip between Portfolios and Watchlists using the arrows beside the name at the top of the page.

What is the difference between the old Watchlist and new Watchlist?

We have introduced the new version of Watchlist in order to offer much better technical stability for the product and make sure that your Watchlist is always available. The Watchlist includes the most popular features from the old Watchlist, including several views for ratio, dividend and percent-performance metrics. Like the old Watchlist, a headline view is included with the latest Globe and Mail news about your Watchlist. The breakdown of your companies by StockReports+ and sector is new. Users familiar with My Shares, will find the robust Portfolio tool extremely useful.

GlobeInvestorGOLD users, once restricted to one Stocklist and one Fundlist, can make as many Watchlists as they like.

At this time, there is no option to customize your view or set alerts. We hope to offer a mobile specific option for Watchlist in the near future.

How do I add stocks and funds to my Watchlist?

Click "Add Stock or ETF." Start typing the name or symbol of your first company or ETF in the box. Auto-suggest will automatically start to predict what you're looking for. Choose the date you purchased your investment and the price will automatically calculate to the closing price on that day. Alternatively, you can fill in your own share price. Fill in the number of shares and your total buy price will automatically calculate. Click "Add" and now it's part of your Portfolio. Repeat the same process to add as many stocks and ETFs as you'd like.

To add funds, click 'Add fund.' Start typing the name of the fund you'd like to add. Follow the same process outlined above.

Can I port my current Watchlist into the new tool?

What is Screener

Our stock Screener is a powerful new research tool that helps you discover new companies and investment possibilities. Filter companies by more than 50 criteria that matter to you, or start with one of four pre-made screens to suit your investment style. Thousands of Canadian and U.S. stocks are at your fingertips and screener makes finding and sorting them easy and remarkably fast.

If you follow a particular investing style, you'll love the four predefined screens we've created. They're a great way to start your research and get familiar with the tool. In our first version, we offer pre-built screens for dividend investing, growth investing, value investing for those who want the best of both worlds, and growth at a reasonable price.

What charting tools does Globe Unlimited offer?

There are three ways to view our charts. In the middle of company profile pages, you'll see the default view. Here, you get a simple price chart for which you can adjust the timeframe.

Click on the square icon at the top right of the chart to open a full-width interactive chart where your in-depth research will begin. Click on the biggest square on the right to make your charting experience full screen and work with our full toolbox.

Our interactive charts allow you to customize your research to your unique style. They're fast, easy-to-use and packed with options. Information called "Talking points" helps you interpolate the data in front of you so you can quickly make sense of what's most important.

What are Company Pages?

For North American stocks, our new comprehensive company profiles offer the most in depth news, analysis, financial information and interactive charts available to investors.

With breaking news and commentary from The Globe's expert writers combined with in-depth information on the company books, analyst ratings and sophisticated charting tools, you'll find everything you need to do research on current and potential investments.

Each page is divided into five sections: today's snapshot, charts and price history, events calendar, opinions and forecasts and the company books.

What is StockReports+?

StockReports+ is a Thomson Reuters service that helps investors pick equities by simplifying the process of evaluating stocks. It will help Globe Unlimited subscribers find new trading ideas and understand trends affecting markets and industries.

StockReports+ generates an Average Score on individual stocks that combines the quantitative analysis of six widely-used investment decision-making tools: Earnings, Fundamentals, Relative Valuation, Risk, Price Momentum and Insider Trading. A simple average of the underlying component ratings is normally distributed to rank stocks on a 1-10 scale (10 being awarded to the highest scored). These factors may be evaluated differently using alternative methodologies and the importance of individual factors varies across industries, market capitalization and investment styles. Additional criteria should always be used to evaluate a stock.

Globe Unlimited subscribers can access unlimited numbers of StockReports+ on North American equities all for the price of their Globe Unlimited subscription. The independent and professional-grade reports are fully updated daily on more than 7,000 equities. Individual reports on other sites sell for as much as $25 each.

How do I access these new Investor Tools from my mobile device?

The Investor Tools are available on a tablet or large-format smartphone for the in-depth research of serious investors. At this time, they are not available in a custom presentation for smartphones or via mobile app.

What do the stock symbols mean beside headlines?

Each story will have the ticker symbol for the investment mentioned in it next to the headline to help you quickly see how it's relevant to your Portfolio.

How do I enlarge charts to be full screen size?

Interactive charts are available on company profile pages. Once you're looking at a company page, scroll down to the area called "Stocks & Investments". Clicking on this area in the blue navigation ribbon near the top of the page will take you straight to this area.

Once you're there, click on the icons at the top right of the chart to see full-width and full-screen interactive charts. We recommend using the full-screen version for the best charting experience. To leave the full-screen version, press the Escape key or use the "×" at the top right of the chart.

Do all companies have a StockReports+ rating?

Not all companies are rated, but the coverage universe is very large and includes 2,800 Canadian and 4,300 U.S. companies and is considered market leading.

Where do I find StockReports+?

StockReports+ is located on our company profile pages. To look at a company profile, start typing the name or the symbol of a company into the search box at the top of the web site. Click on the company's name once it appears. You can also click on company names once you've added them to your Portfolio and Watchlist and go to their page.

When you're looking at a company page, StockReports+ appears underneath the chart at the top of the page and on the far right. You'll see the company's rating and a link to download the latest report as a PDF.

How do I use interactive charts?

Customize your research to your unique style with our interactive charts.

They're fast, easy-to-use and packed with options. Information called "Talking Points" helps you interpolate the data in front of you so you can quickly make sense of what's most important.

Do the same thing at the bottom of the chart to remove any sub-charts you no longer want to see.

Style -- How do you like your charts to look? Whether you prefer dots, lines, mountains or candlesticks, here you can customize the look of your chart to your preference. In this case, you can only choose one style. Click on the button beside any style to make your choice.
Settings -- By default your chart will be set to linear, and the prices on the y-axis are evenly spaced. Change the setting to logarithmic and the prices on the y-axis will be spaced by their percentage change.

How do I find company financial information?

Never again will you have to search for company financials -- we bring them right to you in a clean, easy-to-read format. They're a great way to start your research and get familiar with the tool. In our first version we offer pre-built screens for dividend investing, growth investing, value investing for those who want the best of both worlds, and growth at a reasonable price. Just click on one of them when you open screener and watch the results pour in.

How do you calculate percentage returns in the Globe Unlimited Portfolio? (GUIT)

Percent-performance metrics in Portfolio are calculated using money-weighted returns. This takes into account inflows into your Portfolio, including proceeds from holding sales, dividends or contributions, as well as outflows from it, including costs from holding purchases, reinvested dividends or withdrawals. The formula puts greater weight on performance during periods when the Portfolio is the largest, which is the origin of the name. Mathematically it is the discount rate where the present value of the inflows we talked about earlier is equal to the present value of the outflows. In internal-rate-of-return terminology, the rate where the net present value of the Portfolio is zero.

What features from GlobeInvestorGOLD will I not see in Globe Unlimited?

Globe Unlimited will not focus on bonds, futures, options or derivatives data or tools. These securities and tools were not used extensively by GlobeInvestorGOLD subscribers and so we have not invested in them. Other sites will do a better job with these securities. Tools such as Bondlist will not be available in Globe Unlimited. Our Globe readers are more focused on stocks, ETFs and funds. We also have not invested in a streaming data tool for personal use, like the GlobeInvestorGOLD Tracker. Some GlobeInvestorGOLD subscribers use Tracker as a streaming real-time stock quote platform and pay hundreds of dollars extra per year to get real-time quotes. Currently, there are more sophisticated and powerful trading toolsets available from other web sites. Tracker will continue to be available in GlobeInvestorGOLD and it will be available to our business-to-business clients.

Why are these new Investor Tools not part of GlobeInvestorGOLD?

Our finance readers are some of our most demanding customers and the technology platform of GlobeInvestorGOLD is aging. We are committed to making Globe Unlimited the best it can be for Canadian investors and that is where we're going to invest our development dollars.

All GlobeInvestorGOLD subscribers are entitled to complimentary access toward Globe Unlimited and we encourage all subscribers to activate their free access, which is valued at $19.99 per month.

Bundling all of the features in the Globe Unlimited all-access digital pass also creates a one-stop shop for the best business journalism and investing tools. Having a single account to manage will be easier for our subscribers.

What are the plans for GlobeInvestorGOLD?

The Globe's product managers continually evaluate our products and at any given time, we will have new products that we are launching, some in a growth or maintenance phase and others that we need to shut down. As with the life cycle of any product, we do see a day when Globe InvestorGOLD will be shut down and we would only do so by giving subscribers plenty of warning and time to transition.

We hope our GlobeInvestorGOLD subscribers continue to make good use of their complimentary access to Globe Unlimited, which is valued at $19.99 per month. We have made a significant investment in making Globe Unlimited the best it can be for Canadian investors and remain committed to this product.

What is the difference between Portfolio in GlobeInvestorGOLD and Portfolio in Globe Unlimited?

The Portfolio in Globe Unlimited allows you to track stocks, ETFs, funds, other investments and cash, which are the same asset classes as GlobeInvestorGOLD. The biggest change you will notice is how you perform transactions, which are all in line to the tool rather than being accessed through the old menu page. The new Portfolio offers charts, an asset allocation and sector breakdown like GlobeInvestorGOLD, but these are enhanced with the addition of StockReports+ and a headline view for the latest Globe and Mail news about your Portfolio. It also includes a customized home page, where all of this information is aggregated for all of your Portfolios. Portfolio does not display as many years of historical returns, but we hope to add this in the near future if it is missed. At this time there is no option to set alerts.

I have a problem with inaccurate cash balances in my portfolios. Will this be fixed?

As you're aware, GlobeInvestorGOLD is being replaced in late 2014 by an enhanced offering of investing content and tools via Globe Unlimited. We are enhancing our content and tools to meet the needss of readers like you on that platform. Unfortunately, the technology platform for GlobeInvestorGOLD is aging and we must limit upgrades to when key functionality is in error and when it has a significant effect on the web site. In this particular case, there was a bug in the code that added extra cash distributions. This occurred if you added transactions on a date for which there were other transactions in the same portfolio. This issue was resolved on March 23rd, 2014.

The market charts on the home page of GlobeInvestorGOLD are not working. Will this be fixed?

As you're aware, GlobeInvestorGOLD is being replaced in late 2014 by an enhanced offering of investing content and tools via Globe Unlimited. Unfortunately, the technology platform for GlobeInvestorGOLD is aging and we cannot, at a reasonable cost, add servers to the infrastructure that generates the market charts, meaning that on high-traffic days they may be missing. All GlobeInvestorGOLD subscribers are entitled to complimentary access to Globe Unlimited. GlobeInvestorGOLD is missing pricing data for my mutual funds. Will this be fixed?

We know our business and investing readers use the data we present to make decisions and take actions that directly affect their professional success or personal wealth. Data integrity is a core value for our readers and for us. All metrics need to be verified as accurate, have internal consistency across our web site and apps, and be delivered as quickly as possible. To this end, we use a feed from Lipper, a division of Thomson Reuters, for mutual fund prices. Please send us the ‘fundSERV' code that you believe is missing and we will follow up with them, but keep in mind that it may take several days to weeks for them to resolve this issue if the information needs to be gathered from their database.

I pay for Level 1 real-time data in Tracker? What is happening to Tracker?

As a subscriber to Level 1 real-time data through Tracker, you are undoubtedly eager to know the difference between Real-Time Stock Quotes in Globe Unlimited and Tracker, as well as our plans for Tracker after the discontinuation of GlobeInvestorGOLD. The new tool removes the 15-minute delay on equity pricing from Canadian stock portals, specifically the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange. However, unlike Tracker, this is not a streaming service where data refreshes are pushed to your device. Globe Unlimited is not for professional investors or active day traders. These users have access to streaming data on other more sophisticated and powerful trading toolsets. For this reason, Tracker will be discontinued in 2016, but existing subscribers can continue to access it as a platform separate from GlobeInvestorGOLD until that time. We will provide details of how to launch and log in to Tracker after the discontinuation of GlobeInvestorGOLD in the coming months. Your log-in credentials will be the same as the ones you use now.

The reason I subscribe to GlobeInvestorGOLD is for the streaming feed of BNN. Will this continue to be included in my complimentary access to Globe Unlimited?

The streaming feed of BNN is being discontinued due to its poor visual quality and lack of meta data that would allow us to link video clips to companies in a way that would be meaningful for investors.
