In the June issue of Harper's Bazaar, the fall fashions make their first editorial appearances. Yes, even though we are just entering summer, the keenest shoppers are starting to clamour for the next next thing. Well, one of the most appealing, wearable trends is shown on everyone's best buddy, Jennifer Aniston.
She's frolicking on a beach in a long grey V-necked 3.1 Phillip Lim sweater dress with a ruffled slip dress underneath. The editors have named the look the No. 1 fall must-have.
The dresses of spring and summer have felt so easy, new and feminine, that the slip-on-a-frock-and-go thing will be hard to let go of.
This dress, I can understand. It looks comfortable and sexy and fresh. It is an extension of the long T-shirt thing we are enjoying right now. It is also another eighties throwback: the sweater dress from the Working Girl era. But this one is fine-gauge, and flattering.
A grey sweater is a classic statement. V-necks are flattering for both big and small-breasted women alike. And the little slip hanging below adds a frill of romance to a preppy concept.
The original Lim version is $595 (U.S.), as seen in the magazine. And it will most certainly be pre-ordered by groupies everywhere. I thus congratulated myself for finding the perfect knockoff. Well, actually Marlene Schiff of Toronto's fabulous Boutique Le Trou (416-516-7122) found it. The shop is mostly Canadian avant-garde fashion, with a few great basics.
This is a 525 America sweater, from the Perry Ellis people. It feels delicious, and it's only $95.
I could just pop a vintage slip underneath and have my own little Phillip Lim look, just like Jenn.
Hmmm. That's one dinner out.
