Charging down a steep hill in pursuit of a large cheese may not be a common way to spend a public holiday, but that's what happens every May 26 in England's Brockworth, Gloucestershire, during the Spring Bank Holiday. There are four downhill races, including one for ladies. Each race starts with the master of ceremonies rolling a four-kilogram Double Gloucester cheese from the top of Cooper's Hill. Dozens of competitors run, roll and somersault down the hill after it. Thanks to the steep gradient, it is unusual for competitors to stay in control all the way down. The winner takes home the cheese as well as a few cuts and bruises.
