Love at first sight real, Canadians believe

TORONTO— The Canadian Press

A new poll suggests that more than half of Canadians believe there is such a thing as love at first sight.

The Canadian Press Harris-Decima survey released for Valentine's Day reveals that 55 per cent of respondents are convinced of the phenomenon.

Some 38 per cent say they have fallen in love with their Mr. or Ms. Right on first glance.

That means 17 per cent believe it is possible but just have not experienced it yet.

Of those who have fallen in love at first sight, two out of three say they are still head over heels for the person they originally fell for.

Overall, 98 per cent of the people surveyed said they have been in love at least once.

“Romantic love is almost universally experienced in Canada, and most people have experienced it more than once,” Harris-Decima president Bruce Anderson said Wednesday.

“Our fabled caution leads many to doubt the idea of love at first sight, but the numbers suggest it may be as solid as love after many sightings.”

More than 1,000 Canadians were interviewed by telephone from Feb. 8 to Feb. 12, and the results are considered accurate within 3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
