Beauty Spot: Lipstick Queen

Globe and Mail Update

It's only fitting that someone named Poppy King would helm Lipstick Queen, a company specializing in — you guessed it — lipstick. The Australian beauty launched the brand in 2007, just as lipstick reintroduced itself to our makeup lexicon. "For years, lipstick was taught as something to complement a full face of makeup," says King. "My philosophy is that lipstick looks best with minimal makeup." In other words, think Katherine Heigl, not Gwen Stefani or Dita Von Teese (though we like them, too).

She's also made putting your pucker on easier than ever. Once you've picked a colour that flatters your skin tone, get both versions of that shade. Saint is a sheer, 10 per cent pigmented variety for nice days, while Sinner is an opaque, 90 per cent pigmented stick for naughty nights out (or in).

$23 each at select Holt Renfrew stores; visit www.lipstickqueen.com or www.holtrenfrew.com for more information.
