Sleight of hand

From Tuesday's Globe and Mail

Origami artist Joseph Wu has been folding paper since he was three years old, but only discovered he could make a living at it after losing his job in the high-tech crash. 'I went and checked and realized that I was making almost as much money doing the side origami jobs as I was at my day job.' Three years ago, Heidi Specht from Pangaea Arts approached Mr. Wu about doing a play that would feature his work. The Life of Paper was born. All the paper props and costumes are either designed or inspired by Mr. Wu. As he puts the finishing folds on a paper hat, he explains: 'I want to see origami grow in recognition both in terms of the people doing it and also the acceptance of it in the art community.'
