The baby booty call

TRALEE PEARCE

From Tuesday's Globe and Mail

My, how the booty call has changed.

What was once the favoured practice of late-night Lotharios has been co-opted by the fertility brigade. Wannabe moms can now sign up for Booty Caller: ovulation alerts sent to their cellphones sent by BabyCenter.com, a popular pregnancy and parenting website.

The service, sponsored by First Response, a manufacturer of pregnancy and ovulation tests, offers a series of 18 text messages - three for each menstrual cycle - that tells women when they're most likely to be fertile and provides fertility advice.

"Families are on the go now more than ever ... ," site editor Linda Murray said in a statement. "We hope to ease some of the stress of fertility and conception by offering Booty Caller to mobile moms."

Users can also set up their partner's cellphone number to receive alerts. The service launched last month in the United States and is not yet available in Canada.

Sample messages include: "Your fertile window opens today and lasts five more days. Stress can get in the way of conception so relax and get a massage, meditate or take a yoga class," and "Today is your last fertile day If you get pregnant during this

cycle, your due date will be on or around 6.25.2009."

No word on whether the

messages pop up at 2 a.m., true booty call style.
