The Buy: Sarikastyle sari products

Globe and Mail Update

If you love striking colours, soft, flowy silks and detailed embroidery, you're probably a fan of saris. But if you've ever thought they are just too beautiful to wear, Toronto's Barbara Adhiya is already way ahead of you. She's created a line of items made from new saris, imported from India and reimagined in dozens of unique ways. Adhiya does everything from throw pillows and cushions as well as table coverings, including table runners and tablecloths. She ensures the items are even more unique by naming each after a woman and the personality she imagines the woman would have. For example, a soft, yellow cushion with embroidered flowers is called Hima, and its description is about a woman who loves to tend her garden.
Each collection has items cut from a single sari and they're designed according to its individual pattern, making them one-of-a-kind. Adhiya also does custom designs, including for those want their own saris transformed. Prices are extremely reasonable, from $30 to $45.
