Celebrities smacked for gun hypocrisy Add to ...

Celebrities featured in a public service announcement video called “Demand a Plan” – part of an effort to curb gun violence – are being called out as hypocrites in a video called “Demand A Plan? Demand Celebrities go F--- Themselves.” Actors “love guns and violence as long as they can line their pockets,” the video’s creator wrote on YouTube, where it has been viewed more than 650,000 times since it was posted on Dec. 23.

The video intercuts the PSA with footage of the actors featured in it using guns in their film and television roles. For instance, Jamie Foxx declares, “Columbine” and shortly afterward we see him using a machine gun to kill three people in the action flick The Kingdom. Jeremy Renner goes from pronouncing “Newtown” to being seen blasting off rounds in The Town. Julianne Moore, Chris Rock and Cameron Diaz (pictured) are among the other celebs featured in the mashup video.

Obviously, there’s a very big difference between actual gun violence and on-screen, make-believe gun violence. But the video makes the very good point that denouncing the one when you’ve made a career out of glorifying the other is a bit, well, rich.
