Well-known lady charmer Simon Cowell is expecting his first child with married New York socialite Lauren Silverman. The news has shocked him, the Daily Mail reports his friends as saying.

Lauren and her husband, real estate mogul Andrew Silverman, split up last year, but the New York Post reports Andrew is "livid" about what his brother refers to as a "betrayal," and is naming Cowell as co-respondent in the divorce papers which were filed two weeks ago.

Cowell has been friends with the married couple for seven years after meeting them in the Bahamas. They have vacationed together frequently and double-dated with women Cowell was seeing.

The X-Factor judge is known for his overly-friendly demeanor with women, regularly hosting parties in the Caribbean with his exes and female friends.

He has dated make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy, television presenter Terri Seymour and 1980s singer Sinitta, and was recently linked to Carmen Electra, who was a co-judge on America's Got Talent.

Lauren, who vacationed earlier this year with both her estranged husband and Cowell, is said to be about 10 weeks along in her pregnancy.

Cowell has previously been vocal about his thoughts on having children, saying in a 2009 interview, "God, no. I couldn’t have children. If I had them here drawing on the walls I’d go nuts. With kids, you’ve got a routine you can’t escape from."

Cowell's mother told The Sun in England, "I've not heard anything officially. But if it's true then I'm absolutely delighted. It's wonderful! He'll make a fantastic father. He'll be great."
