People crowd around as guests arrive in cars at Fort Belvedere, the venue where television personality Kim Kardashian and rapper Kanye West will celebrate their wedding, in Florence May 24, 2014.ALESSANDRO GAROFALO/Reuters

Earlier today the couple known as Kimye finally made it official, ending months of speculation on everything from venue to wardrobe to whether Beyoncé would show up to steal the spotlight. While details continue to trickle in, we compare the latest Kardashian wedding to Kim's last trip down the aisle. See how the two extravagant affairs stack up.

THE GROOM

Then: Pro basket-baller and caveman clone Kris Humphries was the second suitor to put a ring on it (Kim was married to music producer Damon Thomas from 2000-2004). Humphries has since admitted that his relationship was a roller coaster that he was too scared to hop off of.

Now: Baller, rapper, style icon and self-proclaimed genius Kanye West seems devoted to his new bride. Here's hoping this particular attachment lasts longer than his previous devotion to shutter shades.

THE DRESS

Then: For her second trip down the aisle KK wore three different Very Wang gowns as well as a $2.5-million diamond head piece. The pre-Kanye looks were classic, though definitely not fashion forward.

Now: We have yet to see photos, but this afternoon a rep for Givenchy confirmed that Kim's dress was designed by the famed fashion house's head designer Riccardo Tisci, who also designed that bizarre grandmother's-curtains-with-gloves concoction that Kardashian wore to the Met Gala in 2012. At the rehearsal dinner on Friday, the bride and groom-to-be both made fleshy fashion statements – she in a plunging white dress with no bra and he in a khaki suit with no shirt. Uh, waiter, there's a chest hair in my soup.

THE VENUE

Then: A private estate in Montecito, California. It seemed extravagant at the time, but feels positively common compared Kimye's castle fest.

Now: Up until Friday night there was confusion about whether the couple was going to say I do in France or Italy. The answer: Why choose one castle when you can double up? Guests attended a rehearsal dinner at the Chateau du Versailles outside of Paris on Friday night and were whisked off to Florence (via private planes, of course) on Saturday morning. The wedding and reception took place at Forte di Belvedere, a 16th century fortress that has been under renovations for five years. Word is the Kardashian/Wests chose the ancient Italian for personal reasons–baby North was conceived there. Barf.

THE CEREMONY

Then: Kim walked down the aisle with her step dad Bruce Jenner and was joined by co-maids of honour, Kourtney and Khloe. The pastor recounted how Kim had called Kris was the yin to her yang.

Now: According to People magazine, Kim was once again escorted down the aisle by her step-dad Bruce Jenner, who attended without his rumoured new squeeze Cher. Andrea Botticelli sang Con te Partiro (a little predictable, no?), while mom Kris was spotted wiping tears in the front row. Given her tendency towards x-treme eye makeup, that can't have been pretty.

WHO WAS THERE

Then: The gossip mag-worthy guest list included Lindsay Lohan, who apparently "ruined" the event by getting super drunk with mom Dina by her side. Also there, Justin Bieber, X-Tina Aguilera, Ryan Seacrest, Avril Lavigne (who was dating Brody Jenner at the time), Mario Lopez, Eva Longoria and (strangely) Kathy Lee Gifford.

Now: Singer Lana Del Rey (who performed at the rehearsal dinner), John Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen, magician David Blaine, rappers Common and Big Sean and Jaden Smith, who dates Kim's younger sister Kylie. The guest list this time around was less notable for who was there than who wasn't…

WHO WASN'T

Then: Donald Trump sent his regrets, opting to hit the linx rather than see his fellow reality titan exchange vows. The Donald passing on a chance to appear on television is surprising, though the bigger surprise was his presence on the guest list in the first place.

Now: Despite rumours that Jay Z was goig to be best man, the rapper and his even more famous wife were nowhere to be seen, opting instead to spend the weekend in the Hamptons. Rumour has it Bey and Jay skipped the European festivities to avoid a run in with Rachel Roy (Kim's bestie and a wedding guest), whose close relationship with Jay Z may or may not have been the cause of the infamous Met Ball elevator implosion. Also giving Kimye the thanks-but-no-thanks treatment were Anna Wintour (ouch) and Kim's stepbrother Brody Jenner.

FILM FACTOR

Then: The wedding was filmed for the lucrative reality special Kim's Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event, which aired a couple of weeks before the couple announced their split.

Now: Guests had to surrender their cell phones to security and Kimye established a no-fly zone over their venue to keep media choppers away.

AWWWWW….

Then: After the I dos, Mr. and Mrs. were introduced by a pre-Blurred Lines Robin Thicke who performed a twerk-free rendition of his song Angels for the first dance.

Now: Speaking at the rehearsal, topless-Kanye told the crowd that Kim is even more beautiful than he is talented. (Presumably following up with, "And that means she's really, really, really, really beautiful.")
