For Jimmy Kimmel, Rob Ford is the late-night gift that just keeps giving.
The acerbic host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! gleefully returned to the Rob Ford comedy well last night following the release of police documents into the investigation of the embattled Toronto mayor and his friend Sandro Lisi.
In his opening monologue on Wednesday night’s show, Kimmel focused on Toronto police’s detailed description of the now-infamous video in which Ford appears to smoke crack cocaine.
“At one point, Mayor Ford holds the glass cylinder to his mouth, lights the lighter and applies the flame to the tip of the glass cylinder in a circular motion,” said Kimmel, quoting directly from the police document.
Continued Kimmel: “After several seconds, Ford appears to inhale the vapour, then exhale the vapour.”
The punchline: “Which is how you do it.”
In the same monologue, Kimmel zeroed in on the moment in the video when Ford apparently realizes that someone is filming the incident for posterity.
“The mayor looked at the camera that was recording him and asked if it was on. It was on,” said Kimmel.
The zinger: “See, this is why it’s important to ask if the camera is on before you smoke the crack.”
Earlier this month, Ford made headlines all over again when he travelled to Los Angeles to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The much-publicized appearance turned out to be yet another misstep by Ford as Kimmel ridiculed the mayor’s behaviour and even made fun of his monochrome black suit and black shirt accompanied by a bright red tie.
“Why are you dressed like a magician?” was Kimmel’s opening question in the interview.
On Wednesday, Kimmel also ran clips of the mayor that were filmed earlier in the day in which Ford was shown running away from reporters at Toronto City Hall while dodging questions on the new police documents.
Kimmel’s astonished reaction to the footage: “That’s the mayor! He’s a one-man stampede. It’s like he’s the star of his own hidden camera-prank reality show.”
To close off his most recent Ford-roasting, Kimmel finished his monologue with still another recent video clip showing the mayor apparently exercising inside City Hall.
“I cannot get enough of this guy,” marveled Kimmel. “I don’t know about anybody else, but if they don’t elect him mayor again, I really want him to move out here [to Los Angeles].”
Added Kimmel, “Preferably into my home with me. Or at least do a reality show: ‘Here Comes Mayor Boo Boo’.”
And seriously, who wouldn’t watch that show?
