Don't fret about Justin Bieber spending time behind bars for his DUI arrest in Miami Beach: All signs point to the Canadian pop star copping a sweetheart plea bargain.
TMZ reports that Bieber's legal representatives have been working with Miami prosecutors to arrange a deal in the singer's favour.
Bieber was arrested in Miami Beach on January 23 and charged with suspicion of DUI, driving with an expired license and resisting arrest without violence.
A subsequent toxicology report revealed that Bieber had THC – a.k.a. marijuana – and the anti-anxiety medication Xanax in his system at the time of his arrest.
According to TMZ's sources, Bieber's legal team have brokered a deal that would allow the singer to plead no contest to reckless driving, which in turn would result in the three original charges being dropped.
And perhaps the most important proviso: The plea bargain would include an agreement by prosecutors to back off from their original demand for random drug testing – which Bieber's lawyers would have fought tooth and nail in court anyway.
If the deal comes to pass, Bieber would likely be slapped with a nominal fine for the reckless driving charge. He would also most likely be placed on probation, probably for a one-year period.
The deal is expected to be finalized in the next few days.
In the final tally, the proposed plea bargain would allow the 20-year-old singer to reassume his rebel-without-a-clue lifestyle without a break in the party.
