Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek

THE 'STACHE IS BACK!

Better sit down for this news: Alex Trebek's long-missing mustache is making a return to Jeopardy!

As reported by People magazine, the Canadian-born game-show host has brought back his distinctive lip-cover following a 13-year absence.

When Jeopardy! returns for its 31st season next Monday, viewers can expect to see Trebek's mustache back in all its greying glory.

Trebek, 74, famously shaved off his trademark 'stache in 2001 after 30 years in broadcasting. Except for one occasion when he briefly wore a fake mustache on April Fool's Day in 2008, his upper lip has been fur-free ever since.

But sometimes TV stars get bored during the summer hiatus.

"In 2001, I shaved my mustache on a whim," Trebek told People. "This year I had a two-and-a-half month period where we were not taping a show, so I grew it back on another whim. I like to keep my life simple."

The pride of Sudbury, Trebek took over the hosting reins of Jeopardy! in 1984 (an earlier daytime version of the show was helmed by the late Art Fleming).

Earlier this summer, Trebek became the Guinness World Record holder for the most game shows hosted (6,829 episodes of Jeopardy! and counting). By rough estimation, he was sporting a mustache for nearly 70 per cent of those episodes and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

But first, somebody should deliver a message to the creators of the Facebook page titled "Bring Back Alex Trebek's Moustache": mission accomplished.

MORE JOAN

The late Joan Rivers will appear on the new season of Celebrity Apprentice. On the same day as Rivers' funeral in Manhattan last Sunday, billionaire Donald Trump, who serves as host and overseer on the entrepreneurial reality series, tweeted, "We just finished shooting a new season of Celebrity Apprentice and happily for all, Joan plays my advisor in two episodes. She was great!" NBC has yet to announce the start date for the upcoming seventh season of Celebrity Apprentice.

UNDIES SHOW

Justin Bieber knows how to deal with unhappy fans and boo-birds: Show them your underpants. According to a report in Us Weekly, the Canadian pop star received a negative reaction from the audience when he took the stage at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn on Tuesday night for a Fashion Rocks event. "The crowd majorly booed him," an unnamed audience member told Us. Bieber's response: He stripped off his clothing until he was wearing only his Calvin Klein underwear. Bieber then proceeded to flex his muscles and strike provocative poses onstage. Later that night, Bieber posted a picture of the incident to Instagram along with the comment, "Just stripped on national television hahahaha it wasn't planned lmao."

DATING GAME

Nobody can ever say Britney Spears doesn't have a sense of humour about herself. On Tuesday night's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 32-year-old singer – who recently split with boyfriend David Lucado – willingly took part in a sketch called "Pros and Cons of Dating Britney Spears." Fallon kicked off the skit by showing Spears the faux profile he set up for her on the dating app Tinder, which included the revelation that the singer "loves to snuggle in bed" and now has her own lingerie line, "so anyone can wear her undies."

TRUE LOVE

From the just-too-weird department: A hard-core Twilight fan recently got married to a cardboard cutout of franchise star Robert Pattinson. As reported in The Mirror, Lauren Adkins, 25, claims she married the effigy of the British actor in a ceremony conducted at the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel last January. "We had our honeymoon in L.A. and I wanted us to climb up to the Hollywood sign together," Adkins told The Mirror. "I had to carry him and we had to do it at night because he can't be in the sun. But everybody makes sacrifices for the man they love, right?"

DOLL PHOBIA

Ellen DeGeneres recently forced Channing Tatum to face his fear of dolls. On Wednesday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the host pushed the macho movie star on his irrational dread of porcelain dolls. Said Tatum: "I just think they're really super freaky. They have real eyes and they look real. I just imagine when I walk by them, their heads turn with you the whole time." To help him conquer his fear, DeGeneres brought out a doll and made it kiss the cringing actor.
