WHIMS OF DESIRE
Who is the most desirable woman of 2014? Take a bow, Emilia Clarke, whom the website AskMen rated number one in its annual 99 Most Desirable Women list. The Game of Thrones actor bumped last year’s winner Jennifer Lawrence to fourth position in landing the lofty honour. Finishing second was Community fixture Alison Brie, followed by model Emily Ratajkowski and Harry Potter star Emma Watson. Finishing further down the list was actress Mila Kunis (number 26) and two notable Canadians: How I Met Your Mother’s Cobie Smulders (29th) and supermodel Coco Rocha (69th). And what about everyone’s favourite twerking pop star Miley Cyrus? She finished 99th overall – last place.
Mon dieu! The French newspaper Le Figaro has raised eyebrows by reporting that U.S. President Barack Obama and superstar Beyoncé are having a torrid love affair. The salacious rumour began with French photographer Pascal Rostain telling the publication “there is something big that is happening” between the president and the pop star. “I can assure you that the world will talk about it,” Rostain said. The rumour received some dubious degree of credence when the French gossip magazine Gala published a report claiming that Obama and wife Michelle were headed for a divorce. While the White House hasn’t yet dignified the rumour with a response, a spokesperson for Beyoncé has dismissed the claim as “absurd.”

LAYING INTO LEGO
Fox News believes The Lego Movie is delivering a dangerous anti-business message to the young minds of America. Fox Business host Charles Payne recently took sharp aim at the animated feature, which topped last weekend’s U.S. box office with $69-million, in large part because the villain in the movie is a character named Lord Business (voiced by Will Ferrell). Pondered Payne: “Why is the head of a corporation, where they hire people, people go to work, they pay their rent, their mortgage, they put their kids through college, they feed their families, they give to charities, they give to churches – why would the CEO be an easy target?” Payne also complained that Lord Business “looks a little bit like Mitt Romney.”

SCTV mainstays Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara will reunite for an upcoming sitcom. Levy will co-produce and star in the half-hour comedy series titled Schitt’s Creek. Slated to run 13 episodes on CBC, the show’s premise casts Levy as a brash billionaire named Johnny Rose, who abruptly loses his fortune and is forced to move to the backwater burg Schitt’s Creek with his pampered soap star wife (O’Hara) and two kids in tow. Comedy veteran Chris Elliott will portray the town’s mayor and Levy’s son Daniel will play one of the offspring. “I’m just so proud to be doing this show back here in Canada,” said the elder Levy.
Note to any females who pined for David Cassidy during his pop-star heyday in the early seventies: He may soon be available. The former star of The Partridge Family (1970-1974) is reportedly getting divorced from his wife in the wake of his recent DUI arrest and rehab stint. Sue Shifrin-Cassidy filed for divorce from the former teen heartthrob on Tuesday morning. Cassidy, 63, made headlines on Jan. 11 for driving while impaired – his second DUI arrest in six months. Cassidy subsequently went to rehab to treat his alcoholism and told Entertainment Tonight on Feb. 5: “This has been a very difficult time for me battling this deadly disease.” Cassidy and his wife have been married 23 years. The marriage was his third and her second.
