Katherine Heigl has waited 10 months to defend herself from rumours that she's difficult to work with. And what has she come up with? "I can only say that I certainly don't see myself as being difficult, I would never intend to be difficult.... If I have ever disappointed somebody, it was never intentional." At NBC's Television Critics Association summer press conference on Sunday, 35-year-old Heigl, who will star in this fall's State of Affairs, responded to a reporter's question about the claims with that rebuff, US Weekly reports.

Let's revisit the claims: In September 2013, Hollywood Reporter quoted unnamed executives and producers as saying that the former Grey's Anatomy cutie-pie-turned-film-actress's bad behaviour had cost films time and money. It also cited sources saying her demands and insults were disruptive, and pointed to her practise of criticizing her own projects publicly. The report did refer to two sources who spoke positively about her, but the overall message was quite negative. "She's not worth it," the site quoted a producer as saying.

Ouch.

If collective memory is any guide, Heigl's "defence" is not going to persuade directors or win fans. She's not the first difficult actor and she won't be the last, but how she handles the controversy can make all the difference.

Heigl, here are some options for you:

Embrace it Russell Crowe is known to get into a fight or two but you mostly don't see him pretending to be innocent.

Apologize profusely Christian Bale got a really bad rep after a tirade on the set of Terminator Salvation. But afterward, he put out a solid public apology and all was forgiven, it seems. Words like "inexcusable," "punk" and "regret," are useful in such situations.

Pretend you were just pretending to be difficult You wouldn't be the first. See: Spencer Pratt – the man that loves to be loathed.

Tell us why the haters have it all wrong Kanye West explains that people just don't get him 'cause he's too smart to handle. "I'm in the process of breaking down walls that people will understand 10 years from now, 20 years from now," he told Seth Meyers.

Be too good to turn away Julia Roberts was apparently nicknamed "Tinkerhell" on the set of Hook due to diva-like behavior. But you don't see directors passing her up because she's an incredible actress and brings in the big bucks.

Morgan feels 'strong'

Tracy Morgan spoke out Monday for the first time since a serious accident injured him and killed his friend James (Uncle Jimmy Mack) McNair five weeks ago. He was seen leaving his home this morning, where he smiled for the cameras and told reporters, , "I'm fine. I feel strong." He was applauded after adding, "Love you, thank you very much. Appreciate it." Morgan is suing Wal-Mart, blaming the company for allowing a truck driver who hadn't slept in 24 hours to drive the vehicle that collided with his own.

Remembering Cory

Lea Michele tweeted a photo of Cory Monteith yesterday, on the one-year anniversary of his death. The tweet read, "We hold you in our hearts today, and every day we remember your smile. We will love you and miss you always." Michele and Monteith were co-stars on the hit musical TV show Glee, as well as romantic partners at the time of his death. Monteith was 31 when he died of a heroin and alcohol overdose.

Kanye West, always a step ahead

The Taylor-Swift-interrupter, leather-sweatpants-inventor, self-proclaimed genius was in a reality show before even meeting wifey Kim Kardashian. The premise of the show appears to be "people perform administrative tasks while talking." The talking centres around planning trips for stars using a travel agent. A clip from a failed pilot from 2010 shows Kanye West talking about how he hates airports because people ask him if he's Kanye West and then don't have very good follow-up questions. Pro tip: If you approach Kanye at an airport and you've interrupted his important phone call and subsequently feel guilty and rushed – don't worry about it, he's probably not even really on his phone.

Itsy-bitsy teenie-weenie

Bethenny Frankel thought it would either be hot, or impressive, or something, to post a picture of herself wearing her kid's Hello Kitty pajamas to Instagram. Oh, and the 43-year-old and former Real Housewives star's kid is just four-years-old. The caption read: "This is my daughter's nightgown and PJ shorts. Think we're ready to start sharing clothes yet?" The only time a mom and her preschool-aged child should be sharing clothes is if you're talking about sharing clothes to dress Barbie up in. Though that's weird in its own way.
