STRIKE A POSE

Hang onto your boxers: Justin Bieber could be the new face of Calvin Klein underwear.

According to The Daily Mail, the Canadian pop star has already shot a campaign for Calvin Klein to promote their high-end undergarments.

While the Calvin Klein deal with Bieber hasn't yet been officially announced ("We don't comment on rumours" a spokesperson told The Daily Mail), it's no secret that the 20-year-old singer is a fan of the brand.

Just last week, Bieber posted a Instagram selfie in which the iconic Klein name was featured prominently.

And obviously the fashion giant isn't overly concerned about Bieber's errant off-stage behaviour – including his DUI arrest last January and his misdemeanor vandalism arrest for throwing eggs at a neighbour's house – possibly being a turn-off for consumers.

More likely, Bieber's bad-boy ways make him even more appealing to the iconic Klein brand.

Remember the infamous 1992 Calvin Klein campaign in which a baby-faced Mark Wahlberg – known as rapper Marky Mark at the time – posed with Kate Moss?

At the time, more fuss was made about the fact that Wahlberg had served a short jail stretch for assault than the fact Moss was topless and only 17 at the time of the photo shoot essayed by legendary lensman Herb Ritts.

And while it's customary for Calvin Klein models to appear sullen in photo layouts, Bieber has already taken the morose approach to a new level.

On Wednesday – the same day his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez turns 22 – Bieber posted another Instagram picture in which he appears forlorn and depressed while sitting shirtless beside a swimming pool.

The optics here: While Selena whoops it up in Saint-Tropez, France, with handsome young men and other new friends, her superstar ex is back at home, sad and alone.

But of course, the broken-hearted Canuck made sure the Calvin Klein brand name is in full display in the photo.

That's just how Justin Bieber rolls.

CHART-TOPPER

It took three decades, but Weird Al Yankovic finally got his first No. 1 album. The 55-year-old song parodist's latest collection titled Mandatory Fun topped this week's Billboard 200 list in the United States, finishing just ahead of Jason Mraz's new album. Mandatory Fun is Yankovic's 14th studio album and includes the songs Tacky (a spin on Pharrell Williams' Happy) and Word Crimes, which spoofs Robin Thicke's global hit Blurred Lines. Yankovic went on Twitter yesterday to express his gratitude with the tweet, "If you'd told me 30 years ago this would happen, I never would've believed it. If you'd told me 2 WEEKS ago, I never would've believed it."

TRASH TALK

Cameron Diaz cut a radio interview short this week after the host made unkind comments about her friend Drew Barrymore. During her appearance on the Australian radio program Kyle & Jackie O, host Kyle Sandilands ventured into dangerous territory by referencing Barrymore's troubled teen years that included two trips to rehab by age 14. Diaz defended her Charlie's Angels costar by saying, "I'm sure, Kyle, you've never been through a drug phase, have you? Or alcoholism or anything like that? Pretty clean, always did it right? Congratulations."

CRUEL IRONY

A tree planted near the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles to honour the memory of late Beatle George Harrison has been declared dead – because it was infested with beetles. L.A. councilman Tom LaBonge said the ten-foot pine was among many in the area affected by ravenous tree beetles and confirmed that the tree will be replanted in the near future.

JUST THE FACTS

Ken Burns' upcoming documentary about the Roosevelt family will steer clear of any longstanding rumours that former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt was gay. Burns and frequent collaborator Geoffrey Ward promoted The Roosevelts: An Intimate History at this week's Television Critics Tour in Los Angeles, where they made clear that the 14-hour opus will not dwell on rumours that Ms. Roosevelt, the wife of former president Franklin Roosevelt, had secret lady lovers. "This is an intimate history, not a tabloid history," said Burns.

GO WEST

Anthony Hopkins has been cast in the upcoming HBO reboot of Westworld. The casting marks the first regular TV role for Hopkins, who earned a Best Actor Oscar for the 1991 film Silence of the Lambs and appeared most recently as Odin in the action sequel Thor: The Dark World. Slated for broadcast next year, Westworld is based on the 1973 film of the same name about a futuristic theme park populated by robot characters. In the new version, Hopkins will play Dr. Robert Ford, "the brilliant, taciturn and complicated creative director, chief programmer and chair of the board of Westworld."
